  • ... that 48-year-old Lieutenant Colonel John Ford Elkington (pictured) was cashiered from the British Army in 1914 but reinstated in 1916 after winning medals for bravery while serving in the ranks of the French Foreign Legion? Various, per article, but the following source is a good summary: "The story of Lt-Col John Ford Elkington, D.S.O., (1866-1944) and his portrait by William Orpen". Orpen Research Archives. 21 July 2020.

Thanks Epicgenius, Mandarax has kindly noted that the hook is a little over length. I think either the years or Elkington's age can be trimmed when this is promoted, if needed - Dumelow (talk) 19:57, 18 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome Dumelow. I did notice that, but I forgot to mention it in the review, so eliminating the age or the years (or both) would work. I forgot to note "that Lieutenant Colonel John Ford Elkington was cashiered from the British Army, but reinstated after winning medals for bravery in the ranks of the French Foreign Legion?" might work. – Epicgenius (talk) 23:32, 18 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
