Father's name[edit]

Was his father's name really spelled "Herald", as the article currently states? The name is usually "Harold". —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 03:42, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DOB[edit]

Some sources say he was born in 1928. His age is obvious in his pictures because he looks older than someone born in 1931 in any year. In addition, he graduated in 1952 from University and then went on to service. If he was born in 1931, he would have graduated from university later in 1955-6 and gone to service after 1955. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.29.77.82 (talk) 09:16, 10 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

I realize this is a very old entry on this Talk page, but are you seriously suggesting that a three-year age difference is evident by the way the person appears in pictures? A three-year age span is pretty much only discernible in small children. As for when someone graduates from “university,” I completed college in two years and graduated at age 19. What do you guess my age to be? MarydaleEd (talk) 04:45, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ages are not always easy to determine. I have a recently-arrived neighbour, an elderly woman who appears to be in her seventies. She is frequently visited by her son, who appears to be a young man about thirty. A couple of days ago he told my sister that his mother is ninety-five and that he was born in the 1950s. If he was born as late as 1959 he would be sixty - and he could have been born even earlier than that. O Murr (talk) 18:13, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Academy Award nomination?[edit]

Cannot find evidence of Gavin ever being nominated for an Academy Award, as stated in the first sentence.

Then remove the reference. MarydaleEd (talk) 04:46, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Birth name[edit]

His birth name was Golenor, in Spanish style Golenor y Pablos or Golenor Pablos. "Gavin" was a stage name, no reason for his mother to take it.173.21.65.42 (talk) 22:32, 22 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Confusing spouse/children listing[edit]

Does this sound odd to anyone else? Cecily Evans (m. 1957–1957; divorced); 7 children Constance Towers (1974–present); 2 stephchildren by this marriage How could he have been married for one year and had 7 kids? --98.246.156.76 (talk) 22:09, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bogus information inserted by vandal. Two children by first marriage, which was 1957-1965. Donner60 (talk) 10:26, 22 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

SAG VP or President?[edit]

Text is muddled. Alludes to a Presidency but doesn't define it with dates. Bellagio99 (talk) 20:37, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your attention to detail and efforts at ensuring facts are correct in Wikipedia. In this instance, however, I fear I do not understand your concern, as I noticed there is a date for his term as SAG president. The text is written “...and the president of the Screen Actors Guild (1971–73).” Perhaps I’m missing something. If so, please clarify your concerns. Thank you. MarydaleEd (talk) 22:37, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Just looked at the text again, it said "first vice-president" and not "president". Here it is:
"He served a term as third vice-president and two terms as first vice-president from 1971-73."Bellagio99 (talk) 01:16, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Again, I thank you for your interest in bringing excellence to Wikipedia. I do see the reference you are questioning. I agree it is rather gray. However, I don’t find the information to be so ambiguous as to be disturbing to the average reader. If we can find more specific details about his SAG terms then that would be ideal. In the absence of such information, it is my opinion that the sentence and information is fine as it is. It could be better, but it is not so offensive as to warrant its removal. After 30+ years of professional editing, I am usually quite critical at even the hint of mistakes in Wikipedia articles. However, in this situation, I would simply encourage you to try to nail down his specific dates and if it can’t be done, let the text stand as is. There are many other problems with this article that could use the attention of a skilled editor. I corrected the hyphenations in “vice president,” but the greater issue with this article are the many statements of fact that need citations. You are right to question the veracity of some of the statements in this article.Marydaleed (talk) 01:59, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
