I made this page to deal with a red link from another I was working on. The article needs fleshing out beyond the dry-as-hell facts & dates I put in it, such as early life before West Point and the four years he was not in the Army. This plus another source and a pic if available, and it'll be B-class for sure. Kresock (talk) 01:10, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

@Kresock According to the Blakey biography of John H Winder, Winder purposely left the details of those 4 years blank when recounting his biography in the 1840s. According to Blakey, Winder was ashamed of this time in his life. Just after his father died, his father-in-law became incapacitated (in October 1825) and Winder couldn't manage the plantation. Also, I fixed an error, it had him marrying Elizabeth after he resigned when he actually married her February 12th 1823. (He submitted his resignation letter on January 19th, 1823 he did not resign until August 31st, 1823.) Warriorsvoice (talk) 02:32, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Instructing Jeff Davis

[edit]

'He then taught tactics at West Point in 1837, where among his students was future Confederate President Jefferson Davis (which was most unusual, as Davis had graduated West Point in June, 1828).

Rather an odd statement. Could Davis not simply have been sent on a course at West Point? Or are you saying that the claim is dubious? Valetude (talk) 04:32, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
True. Davis had even resigned from the army at this point. Obviously wrong and therefore deleted ... GELongstreet (talk) 21:01, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Winder returned to West Point in September of 1827 and met Jefferson Davis there according to Blakey (page 86 of General John H Winder, C.S.A.) Warriorsvoice (talk) 02:37, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The Sign (movie)

Has been discussed at the Wikipedia Teahouse [1] Noting it here in case someone can use the links/references provided in that discussion. Pelagicmessages ) Z – (08:33 Wed 24, AEST) 22:33, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Pelagic Thanks for posting this here. I just realized how many errors are on his page so I'm attempting to clean things up a little. Sorry, I'm very new here and still figuring things out. Warriorsvoice (talk) 02:52, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
