Baseball-Reference, linking and citing

[edit]

At the moment, redundant links to John Hatfield's player page at Baseball-Reference are used here for illustration. See discussion. --P64 04:46, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

At the moment? It's been over nine months.69.68.238.142 19:41, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Deleted here. I don't know whether the discussion ever happened there. --P64 (talk) 21:32, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gil Hatfield

[edit]

Gil Hatfield at bb-ref is (b1855), only 8 years younger than John, but a major leaguer 1885-95 (chiefly 1888-91), a high-level career centered twenty years later. Hard to believe, even given the early end for John. --P64 04:46, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Today I revised the first of the two following paragraphs, then removed both from the body of the article to this discussion page. --P64 (talk) 21:38, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Born 1847 and 1855 in New Jersey, John and Gil Hatfield's paths never crossed in the major leagues. At that level John played entirely in his twenties, Gil entirely in his thirties, about twenty yeras apart.
  • Another John Hatfield played briefly in the Florida Marlins farm system in 1993. He was named for the former after his great grandfather told stories of the Hatfield brothers. Hatfield now resides in Tennessee with his wife, Rita.
