Alcatraz?[edit]

Please clarify how he was POW in Alcatraz. At the first glance it looks like a joke, but this text was by the original article creator. So I see three possibilities:

it was a typo
There was an Alcatraz in Vietnam, just like there was a "Hilton".
He was interred on Alcatraz Island for some reason.

OK. Did some google research. The phrase in question was copied into the article from the cited source [1], so user:Rlevse is off the hook. On the other hand goole search for alcatraz+vietnam gives an interesting reference, which says that a group of tough inmates of Hoa Lo prison were known as the Alcatraz Gang. Changed the article reference to "Alcatraz Grove" per the Coker article. "Alcatraz" seems to have been a slang term for a specific POW prison, as "Hanoi Hilton" for Hoa Lo. But can't find the Vietnamese designation for the "Alcatraz" or "Alcatraz Grove" facility. Geoff ^{Who, me?} 17:39, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There were several small prisons around Hanoi these guys were moved to and from. Many of their Vietnamese names are unknown to us and only had a few cells. The "Hanoi Hilton" is known, it is called Hao Lo (pronounced "wah low") in Vietnamese.17:59, 17 May 2010 (UTC) (by Rlevse)

Alcatraz was one of the smaller compounds in the Hanoi area. Seems to have been in operation from around 1967 through 1968 or '69 and then briefly reactivated in 1970.Intothatdarkness (talk) 19:51, 14 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Into is correct. There were several of these smaller prisons in North Vietnam. The American POWs gave all of the them nicknames. My favorite nickname is one prison called "Dirty Bird".PumpkinSky talk 20:53, 14 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
