Britain's greatest player? Even 'arguably', who thinks that? Apart from one freak Euro Championship with that bat - when he was 32 - what else did he win? Desmond Douglas was much more successful over a much longer period of time, Chester Barnes an infinitely better young prospect, Fred Perry won the world singles title, and Johnny Leach won it twice.
