Notability

[edit]

Can I have the paged checked for the changes I have made? --Jimmy b 1984 (talk) 11:28, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm sorry, but I don't think that your changes have added much showing notability. Please note that WP cannot be used as a reference (use wikilinks instead). Also, references need to substantiate something claimed in the article (ref 1 at this point is just a link to a homepage showing that Radio Le Mans exists (and as we have a wikiarticle, that's a given). IMDb is not considered a reliable source. --Randykitty (talk) 11:41, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ok so I've taken your feedback onboard and looked into notability in a little more detail, I believe if Murray Walker has a page as an F1 commentator the same rule should apply to a sportscar commentator. John is considered the best in his field and is listened too my millions from all corners of the globe. In fact John has commentated on F1 in 2000 for the old F1 digital channel (a fact I'm yet to add) . As regards the reliable sources; would removing the IMDB reference and adding the film makers own credit be considered a reliable source? I shall also link to any wiki page where possible but I consider supply a reference source outside of Wikipedia if wiki link is not available. I know the sources I'm linking to as a sportscar fan and consider them reliable, hence the reason I linked to them. Jimmy b 1984 (talk) 23:47, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Adding a source from the film makers would be a reliable source, but not being independent, it would not contribute to notability. Also, I haven't looked at the Walker article, but there are millions of articles on WP and it is clear that some (or even many) will not adhere to our standards. So WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS (less reverently WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS) is generally not considered to be a good argument to use. (Just had a look at Walker and just his OBE is already enough to make him meet our inclusion criteria, so this is not really a comparable case). What you need here is not just references showing that Hindhaugh did something or other. Everybody does things, that doesn't necessarily make one notable. What you have to show is that others have noted what he did and that this can be verified because those others wrote about him in reliable sources. --Randykitty (talk) 15:10, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I can supply many links/references from 3rd parties reporting what John has done/is doing. I really don't see how I'm not reading you're high standards. I also noticed in the notability information a degree of common sense should be applied at times, I feel under these circumstances that this should be applied on a subject you know very little about (with respect). I also think a degree of consistency needs to be applied as the following pages don't comply with you're rules Louise Goodman (external link to her own website) James Allen also links to official website. I understand you're desire for intellectual rigour but you're denial of movie and TV credits is a bit much, since those things are noteworthy and John is, objectively part of their noteworthiness.
