[edit]

This article should not be speedy deleted as being about a person, animal, organization or web content but which fails to assert the importance of its subject, because... John Lardner was a successful and important sports writer that followed in the footsteps of his more famous father. He was part of the golden age of journalism in Chicago, and contributed material to many of the city's top papers. --Emmammartin (talk) 18:47, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notability is not inherited, and the article fails to provide any establishments as to importance or significance. What journalism awards did he win (if any) for example?   ArcAngel   (talk) ) 19:06, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
While I agree that the current article is poor, a quick Google search turned up several results like this, this and this - more than enough to meet WP:GNG. For that reason alone there's no way this should be speedied. I half wonder if this should be the primary topic instead of the snooker player of the same name whose article I wrote. Emmammartin, in future it would be helpful if you could base anything you write here on reliable sources so that we know it's a) true and b) important enough to be worth writing about.
