Page name

Wikipedia:Disambiguation states, "When the primary meaning for a term or phrase is well-known (indicated by a majority of links in existing articles), then use that topic for the title of the main article, with a disambiguation link at the top". There is no article on a theologian named John Layfield, and Google searches for topics such as '"John Layfield" theology' return few germane results. I do not therefore see a need to move the article about the wrestler; the theologian in question may well deserve an article, but appears to be considerably less well known than the wrestler. There is no need to turn John Layfield into a disambiguation page at this time. McPhail 17:46, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

Birthdate

Can someone find out whay is his real birthday? The date is correct, however the year is not. On the page, one in the infobox says 1966 and on the top it says 1967. SFrank85 03:16, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

Nevermind, I fixed it. SFrank85 03:18, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

i know i'm puting this in the right section, but i just want to knwo if anyone knows if JBL is a grand slam chmapion?? (WWE championship, European championship, World tag team championship, and untied states championship)

JBL said in promo during a 2004 episode of SmackDown! "at 37 years old I have done it all." Since this was took place before 29 November that year, that means he was born in 1966.

Redundancy?

Is there any particular reason why information in this article is restated at least twice in other sections? For instance the whole football mention at Abilene is in the main paragraph and then is later repeated more or less later on in the article. It just seems extraneous and unnecessary to do that. 65.145.212.91 05:00, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

JBL isn't that tall. 6,7? Yeah right.

I reckon he is more like 6'4". 6'5" tops

JBL is 6'6". WWE homepage says that, plus ive seen JBL in real life, and he's about that size

Whoever revealed what happens at the SmackDown tapings, thanks a lot. You just ruined the entire show. And why? That was inconsiderate and rude.--Killswitch Engage 03:32, 25 May 2006 (UTC)Killswitch Engage Ki

JBL is retired now isn't he? He got fired.

Just because he got fired it doesn't mean he's retired. I think he has another run in him, and the rumors state he will challenge for the WWE title on RAW. (.(Undertakerlives)

Beat the Undertaker

He did not say he couldn't beat the Undertaker he said he couldn't keep the Undertaker down.

JBL is a Grand Slam Champ!

I had some discussion over on the Grand Slam champions board. JBL has held the A world title, and second tier title, a tag team title, and a title that is not in circulation. Mater of fact, he had 2 of them. dosnt that make him a grand slam champ?

He needs the intercontinental title to be a grand slam champion. --Fr3nZi3 16:19, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

JBL has now been credited with a Grand Slam. He called himself a Grand Slam winner (while comparing himself to Tiger Woods) as he was putting over King Booker during his match with The Undertaker.

  • He's had a third-tier title (European), a second-tier title (United States), world tag team, and world heavyweight titles.
  • That makes him as Grand Slammy as you can get. VelvetKevorkian 13:41, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Actually,if you read it properly, the U.S Title has not been recognised as a requirement for Triple Crown status. Nor by the WWE or PWI.-Unsigned,CBA signing in.

2006/Color Commentator

Should color commentator be under 2006, or in it's own category? I see it's been moved under 2006, but I dont know whether to move it back into its own area, or leave as is. Thoughts? AWBricker

JBL face turn?

Ever since JBL became color commentator of SmackDown!, he starts to act face by saying "Oh no" or anything like that when some people, like Matt Hardy, get in trouble. Should we add the face turn or keep the heel turn or just let this slide?

no becuase he interferead in a mathc recently and still roots for " king booker" and "the little bastard" when they are used in storylines, and they are both heelsThenewjackblackk 21:53, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Why would you consider his color commentary a face? He reminds me of Jerry Lawler when he was a heel in the 90s, only louder and more annoying especially during Vito's matches. It gets irritating after awhile. And how many more times are we going to have to here about his mother watching Smackdown. 65.31.99.71 08:55, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Add-Ons

I changed JBl's height to 6 foot 6 inches, which is his actull height. I also got rid of the retiried part, and chaged retired to inactive, as he has talked about returning to the ring. He is not confirmed as retired

no one really knows if he is retired or if he is nurseing his back right? Thenewjackblackk 21:54, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

  • JBL has stated in interviews and on Around the Ring that he is retired and is comfortable as an Announcer. MrTravis

Personal Life

This entire section was deleted by 150.252.72.6 and no reason was given as to why. Looking over the users talk page, it seems that him being useless to wikipedia is par for the course. The Real Stucco 19:03, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

A Return Match

During the recent WWE European Tour, JBL took part in a match teaming with King Booker & Mr. Kennedy against The Brothers of Destruction & Batista, in Dubin, Ireland on Nov. 13th. It may be worth mentioning http://www.onlineworldofwrestling.com/results/liveevent/2006.html

Canadian Football League - nope

He does not show up on any all time CFL team roster. Same for the Raiders of the NFL. He does have a football card for the 1991 San Antonio Riders, so he probably played for them.Mundster 06:34, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Controversy flaw

JBL using racial slurs isn't actually controversial. It's part of his gimmick. It shouldn't be part of the controversy section. 202.69.183.99 10:31, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

  • JBL's racial slurs as part of his gimmick are controversial. Just because they're scripted does not make them non-controversal. Further, JBL's comments are controversal just as the Cryme Tyme gimick has been controversial, too.
  • The controversial section needs some cleaning up. Where's the objectivity? Most of it assumes him as racist by making no dissemination between his personal beliefs, and his gimmick. AJFederation 05:35, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

mess

i'm gonna clean up the last paragraph in the 2006 section, as it is written with alot of broken english that is difficult to understand.

Judgment Day

should it be noted under a trivia uestion that the last 3 years in a row JBL was in a main event match for a world title at Judgement day (04 he faced Eddie Guerrero, 05 he faced John Cena, and in 06 he faced Rey Mysterio)

Anyone know the date of his WWF debut?

The best I can find is December 1995 as John Hawk against Savio Vega (http://www.angelfire.com/wrestling/cawthon777/95.htm). Is that right.@Bearhug Lewis 19:58, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Nicknames

Should a section be added with "Wrestling God" put there? I'm not sure if he's had any other nicknames or if it's notable enough. But it would seem so, other articles (see Triple H) list them. Gavyn Sykes 21:51, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

I don't think we should. Triple H has had multiple nicknames, 3 of which he still uses. Layfield used only that one, he used it sparingly, he was almost never called "Wrestling God" by other superstars or commentators, and he has not used it in years. (Sawyer 05:49, 11 August 2007 (UTC))

Powerbomb?

I've never seen JBL do a powerbomb. Why is it listed? Because it's his finisher in SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007 or what?! 90.185.211.226 22:44, 28 October 2007 (UTC)Emilos

In Ring Return

I think we should call him a SEMI-RETIRED wrestler, as he returned to in-ring competition on Raw last night, and he actually wrestled. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Excessbaggage80 (talkcontribs) 20:38, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

He did not wrestle though, he helped beat up Coach and Carlito. The match was just Hornswoggle vs. Coach and Carlito (it was no DQ, thats why the APA could interfere). TJ Spyke 03:42, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
WWE.com announced his in-ring return. TheGuitarHero (talk) 04:52, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Return To Active Duty

It seems we've been entertaining a bit of looking into the crystal ball, here. JBL returns tonight on Smackdown, but until that show airs, it's not official unless it's properly referenced somewhere else (WWE.com or another reliable source). Snowfire51 (talk) 23:55, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Well this ultimately proved to be false...

In "Semi-Retirement / WWE Commentator (2006-2007)"...

"Layfield noted in a recent commentary on TheStreet.com that he was retiring from in-ring competition for good..."

"A broken back suffered in a match in England, compounded by a herniated and bulged disc, finally made me realize my career as a professional wrestler was over."

Yet he returns a year and a half later

Should these comments be retained?

World Champion

Not sure how to edit the wiki directly myself, but just thought I should bring up that JBL was never world heavyweight champion, let alone the longest raining. It says in the itro to the article that he was the longest raining World champion in Smackdown history. He was the longest raining WWE Champion in smackdown history perhaps. Also when you click on the World Champion link, it goes to the WWE championship section Nathangrafton (talk) 00:25, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

A World Heavyweight Championship does not equal the World Heavyweight Championship (WWE). Both the WWE title and the WHC title are considered to be world titles of WWE. The TNA World Title is also recognized as a world title by PWI. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 00:29, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
I agree with Gavyn. It doesn't actually say World Heavyweight Championship anywhere in the article with regards to him having won it, and he refers to himself as a World Champion. I don't see a problem with the article, because like you said the World Champion link goes to the WWE Championship, which is what he won. NiciVampireHeart (talk) 00:32, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
I agree with Gavyn and Vampire Heart, a "World Championship" means a highly prestigious title with World Title Status, such as the WWE Championship. So with that, JBL is the longest reigning World Champion in SmackDown! history while holding the WWE Championship Cheers=)--TrUcO9311 TaLk / SiGn 02:46, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
However, Batista held the World Heavyweight Championship for 282 days, compared to JBL's 280, or is it not considered seeing as the first 2-3 months of it were spent on RAW??? Masterofdestiny (talk) 07:06, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

freakout

shouldnt there be some mention of jbl's complete freak out's first at armaggedon chris jericho moved him out of the way jbl freaked out and interfeered in the match. then at a raw match jericho interuppted jbl's entrance and he freakedout and wrapped televison cable around his neck and tried to hang him i mean seriously he attempted murder —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jackjohnson15 (talkcontribs) 20:36, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

All of that IS mentioned... Gavyn Sykes (talk) 20:40, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

plus its fake...

The Hornswoggle hospital assault

I wouldn't dream of denying that there's a great deal of "week by week" stuff that could bloat a WWE article into unreadability. But not only was this a memorably tasteless bit of heel heat-mongering in its own right, it's the setup to a Wrestlemania storyline. I won't try putting it back - but I think you Twinkled a little too aggressively in this case. Ribonucleic (talk) 23:27, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Should that be added as one of his nicknames? JR has called him it loads of times so makes sense to me to put it down TheCobra1987 (talk) 11:14, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Layfield's company recently released a new energy drink, 418 energy for golfers. --WWEluvr (talk) 19:57, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Title shot

JBL was not able to in the WHC can someone put it I would do it but the page is protect

That is non notable week-by-week per WP:PW, so no. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 15:36, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Is a title shot why it is not important? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shabe0mac (talkcontribs) 00:46, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

not notable as of yet. It's unknown where the writers will take this feud. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 18:39, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

JBL is poopy controversy

Apparently wrestler John Cena confirm on his blog that JBL was indeed "poopy", meaning the way he treats wrestlers backstage is not very professional. There was an actual confrontation between these two backstage, when Bradshaw was teasing Paul London backstage. John quickly arrived and told him: "Why don't you mess with someone your own size you big poopy". The two haven't seen eye to eye since. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Joehix (talkcontribs) 09:03, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
