Notable[edit]

My concern with this article is whether or not the subject is Notable. It certainly seems like the band Athlete (band) is notable, and an argument could be made that the documentary and/or song is notable; but what about the subject himself? Outside of references about the song, the only references provided thus far are an obituary, which does not by itself establish notability, and the one article in the Strathspey Herald, which helps but I think is not definitive. I think for this article to survive, we need more references that establish notability outside of the song/video itself.Qwyrxian (talk) 04:17, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Don't believe he qualifies for notable people, however he may qualify for military person. I'm not too familiar with British military to know if the subject meet any of the criteria. Meaning, I'm not sure if the MBE or MC would be considered his nations highest or 2nd highest honors. Also, he appears to have commanded a body of troops in a notable battle, but I'm not 100% certain the troop itself is notable. The 156th Battalion is mentioned in the Battle of Arnhem, but are known for a single event. Would think a notable troop would be known for considerable contribution, not just a one day event. The MBE page states that MBE is the lowest of 5 levels of the Order of the British Empire, and it's not strictly a military order anyway (meaning it would need to be judged under general notability rules not, WP:MILPEOPLE. The Military Cross page states that it's the 3rd highest level award, with 2 awards at Level 1 and 3 awards at level two. Thus, on awards alone, the subject is not notable. His rank does not qualify him. It's not clear to me from the article that he "Played an important role in a significant military event; or commanded a notable body of troops in combat." As far as I know, a company does not count as a "notable body." I'm going to post a request for input from the people at the Military WikiProject.
