Australian peers - category[edit]

His viscountcy is titled: Viscount Slim, of Yarralumla in the Capital Territory of Australia and of Bishopston in the City and County of Bristol. I wonder if that alone makes him an Australian peer. He certainly has no other Australian connections, that I can see. -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 12:49, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed him from Category:Australian peers as his Australianness is not established. -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 00:02, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I assume by 'Australian peer' in that question means an Australian who is a peer. There has been no such honour as 'an Australian peerage', Australia has never created peerages - the peerage he inherited from his father is a peerage of the United Kingdom of Great Britain.Cloptonson (talk) 14:52, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

House of Lords succession[edit]

I am not sure about Lord Ravensdale having "succeeded" 2nd Viscount Slim in the House of Lords. Presumably this means Ravensdale was elected to fill the voting position in the Lords made vacant when Slim died. But isn't succession usually defined as who inherits the title, in this case viscount? Could someone expert in these matters please clarify?

In the infobox it is usually stated, who succeeded the holder of an office. For example, Boris Johnson would be listed as successor to Theresa May in the office of PM. Thus the choice of words here does not signify inheritance, but merely, that another person subsequently occupied the office or position in question.UKcrow93 (talk) 09:50, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Coat of arms[edit]

The coat of arms shown is that of the first viscount. As the second viscount was never a Knight of the Garter, his arms would not be encircled by the Garter. Perhaps someone with a little bit of skill in these matters could create a version of the coat of arms without the Garter, to display in this article?--UKcrow93 (talk) 09:53, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
