Dates[edit]

This article gives conflicting dates for his trial and acquittal:

On September 15, 1865, Surratt fled to England and later to Rome. He joined the Papal Zouaves. When his whereabouts was discovered he went to Alexandria, Egypt. There he was arrested on November 27, 1866. Surratt was brought back to the United States and went on trial for murder on June 10, 1867. The jury heard 80 witnesses for the government and 90 witnesses for the defense. The trial ended August 10 with the jury deadlocked (4 votes = guilty; 8 votes = not guilty). Eventually, Surratt was freed in the summer of 1868. He had benefited from the fact that he had been tried by a civil court. Question Involving When John Surratt met Booth[edit]

I just finished reading John H. Surratt's diary, and noticed in it, it seems to conflict with this Wikipedia page. This page says that Surratt was introduced to John Wilkes Booth in 1864 by Dr. Mudd, shortly before the kidnapping plot, but his diary implies that he knew Booth at least around February 20th, 1861, as evidenced on this page. The Booth referred to could potentially be a different one, but it is implied to be John Wilkes Booth, due to his acquaintance with a mysterious woman that continues after it was confirmed to be John Wilkes Booth in the diary. I'm not sure where the information gotten on this article was acquired because it doesn't seem to be cited, and I've never done an edit like this so I don't want to change it incorrectly, but I think this is worth looking into as a possible error in the wiki page.
