Regarding the restoration of purported image of John Tunstall

[edit]

The upper image of Tunstall has a provenance, curated by an academic source, unlike the other image, which has no provenance that I can find, and was uploaded to Wikimedia Commons by a user who claims to be employed by the Phillips Collection. The same user has uploaded other images of persons that he asserts are genuine, but he has provided no provenance for any of them, other than claiming they are from the Phillips collection.

There was a discussion on that user's talk page about this issue, which has been raised by other users, where he has stated "I also have a signed contract from the owners that allows me to promote the collection. I can submit a copy of the contract." Has he done so? I see no indication that the problem has been resolved. Carlstak (talk) 05:11, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I see now that they come from this "Phillips Collection", part of a non-scholarly online magazine, so there may be a conflict of interest problem as well. The user's claims of veracity seem dubious. Carlstak (talk) 06:19, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Irish vs English? What Nonsense.

[edit]

Murphy and Dolan may have been Irish and Tunstall may have been an Englishman trying to muscle into their racket but McSween was Canadian and the vast majority of people they hired were American, If you look over the names of the hired gunmen you will see Billy the Kid (McCarty) was Irish American (although sometimes portrayed as a WASP in fiction) fighting on tunstall's side, while names among the Murphy Dolan hires include British names like Beckwith Roberts and Baker. No wonder Wiki is looked down on when articles contain nonsensical claims like that. 100.0.196.219 (talk) 08:36, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In case you hadn't noticed, most of the articles related to Billy Bonney (esp Lew Wallace) are heavily influenced by the Young Guns movies, which is just the worst. John Fusco should be ashamed. BiographyHound (talk) 16:20, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
