Unfinished work[edit]

Hi @DGG: Wanted to ask if it was the phrasing of the below that is the problem with this sentence that was deleted? Please advise. BrillLyle (talk) 23:12, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Before he died, Weitz was said to have been working on a semi-biographical novel on World Heavyweight Champion boxer Max Schmeling and the Gestapo.

Ethnicity of John Weitz[edit]

Hi Brill - Don't you think you need a citation that they were ethnically Jewish considering that you have the categories: Jewish emigration from Nazi Germany; Jews and Judaism in Shanghai; and German Jews; otherwise it is unsourced.Patapsco913 (talk) 00:35, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Respectfully disagree. Growing up during the time he grew up, when there was discrimination both in Europe and in the United States, this is an important notation. He also wrote about Jewish subjects, and per quotes by his sons, considered himself Jewish, very much so. I typically don't source in infobox, have been told repeatedly not to do that. The items you list substantiate the Jewish designation in the infobox. Plus, I added back the citation you put in the first sentence of early life. I'm not really sure what the issue is here, quite frankly. BrillLyle (talk) 00:51, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Well, you just added back that they were in effect, ethnically Jewish as they were not religious. Without a citation, someone will come and remove all the categorizations. No issue for me, I was just adding a citation to support the categorizations which was not there before.Patapsco913 (talk) 01:19, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand why anyone would strip these facts from the page. It seems bizarre and very aggressive. I am definitely not going to delete the information. If someone wants citations to these facts beyond the ones provided on the page, they can be provided, but I'm not quite sure what the point is here. Are you saying to delete Jewish from the infobox? It's a fact. And would be incorrect to delete. BrillLyle (talk) 02:51, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No, that was why I added the citation which stated that he was Jewish which was not expressly stated in the body of the text. You fixed the problem so it is now a moot point. We cannot place someone in a category (e.g. German Jews) unless it is clearly sourced in the body of the text even if it is true. There was not a single statement in the body of the text that he was Jewish yet you had him in three Jewish categories as well as stated as such in the infobox. There are veteran editors out there who will spend one minute on an article and removed 50% of it in a minute if not expressly sourced. I was just trying to help.Patapsco913 (talk) 04:33, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Stores that carried his line of clothing[edit]

I have a John Weitz suit jacket and pants combo that I thrifted in Ohio a while back. It has a Shillito's New Haven Shop tag inside as well as his designer tag. I cant find anything specifically relating to that shop online, only a Shillito's Department Store, apparently Cincinatti's first department store. Does anyone know anything about said shop? 2601:405:4801:2590:D3DE:172E:26DA:824B (talk) 21:34, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have photos of the tags from the suit as well as the really nice hanger it came with. I think this suit is one of his earlier works as it only mentions the Shillito's store and his tag is fairly simple, The American Designer, John Weitz. Ducky10.1981 (talk) 21:52, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The question was posted by myself if you can't guess that. I created an account shortly afterwards. Ducky10.1981 (talk) 21:53, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Here are some links to the photos of myself wearing the suit as well as the tags in question. (The suit has no composition tags, just a dry clean only tag at the neck that you could hook a finger into if you wanted to similar to the tags usually meant to be put on a hook on a wall or door). On both John Weitz wiki and the Shillito's wiki, i can find no information on either specific label. Was New Haven Shop a short lived moniker for the mens wear department? Why is the l in my tag shorter than the l in the department store logo. Why is it The American Designer John Weitz and not John Weitz Inc. Did he always use a heart to dot the I in Weitz?Imgur link to images of the suit and labels Ducky10.1981 (talk) 16:16, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
