POV[edit]

While I tend to agree that forcing the Dardanelles would have worked, the summary states as fact and certainty an eventuality viewed through the fog of war. Surely the whole can be worded better.Czrisher 01:13, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Flag[edit]

He was born in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. The flag used is for the Irish Republic. Should we use a different one? Ozdaren 23:16, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Goeben[edit]

The assertion that there were no forces available (or none that the royal navy were prepared to commit) capable of tackling SMS Goeben seems baseless given that the attacks were led by HMS Queen Elizabeth, a larger, more modern battleship than any available to the defenders. Well, the text as it stands does not mention the Goeben. However, according to Churchill's WWI history, the Queen Elizabeth was able to be assigned to the Turkish campaign rather than going to the Grand Fleet on a temporary basis only. She was a new ship and had to have practice fire to calibrate her guns. This was to be done in the Med, but Chruchill decided (and Fisher concurred) that doing her test firing at the straits would be just as good for calibration, and could immessurably help in the reduction of the forts before she moved on to the Grand Fleet.
