Merger

[edit]

Grant is the only person ever named Honorary Mayor of Hollywood. Until someone else is appointed it is synonymous with him. As an office it is not notable. -Will Beback 23:05, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

They're two separate articles. The Mayor article should outline the position, the Grant article should inform on Grant personally and historically. Being synonymous isn't being the exact same thing.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.174.133.182 (talk) 07:52, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the first statement. The only reason there is an Honorary Mayor of Hollywood is because of Johnny Grant.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.203.44.156 (talk) 05:19, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think Johnny should be merged, he has spent more hours of his life promoting Hollywood than anybody else.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Ladydain (talkcontribs) 01:57, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge. There has been only one such mayor, and when Grant is gone, so the position will also go. Sincerely, GeorgeLouis—Preceding undated comment added 20:45, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It would be great if someone could add a photo of Mr. Grant. Mike Dillon 17:59, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No Offense Intended, but WHY is he Honorary Mayor of Hollywood?

[edit]

Okay, so Johnny Grant has been around forever and, while not necessarily a national treasure, he is obviously a popular guy in the sphere of Hollywood, but does anyone have ANY IDEA WHY he, as opposed to any other reasonably accomplished and popular Los Angeles resident, was appointed "Honorary Mayor of Hollywood?" I am truly not trying to be disrespectful. Whenever I see him on the TV (usually at the Walk of Fame ceremonies), I wonder what the heck he did to become Honorary Mayor for life and, of course, that is not addressed in the article. It might also be interesting/helpful to know why he was awarded two Emmy awards, since the article doesn't actually mention him being on television, unless the Olympic fundraising telethon in 1952 was televised and not on radio as implied.Pywacket 19:20, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What happened to all the references?

[edit]

They appear to be gone. What the heck? I don't know enough to know how to "revert" them back.

As to why JG is the "honorary mayor of Hollywoood", part of it is that he just jumped into the position of hosting the Walk of Fame events. Officially, he is Chairman of the Walk of Fame Selection Committee and the Hollywood Historic Trust. So there is some official validation. Simply put, I think he just started doing it, he's popular, so he kept doing it. He's over 80 now, so it remains to be seen how much longer he does it. He doesn't look very healthy to me.
