Dee Jays[edit]

Somebody's gone to the trouble of writing paragraph after paragraph of eulogy, without even bothering to give us any detail about O'Keefe's group, the Dee Jays... Could anyone oblige? --kingboyk 22:47, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Jok-stamp.jpg[edit]

Image:Jok-stamp.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. Facial reconstruction[edit]

My father was the surgeon at Kempsey District Hospital who stitched up the lacerations in O'Keefe's face after his car crash. According to what I heard about the incident, O'Keefe sought to have the repair re-done in Sydney, but no further work was necessary or done. Such an anecdote is no basis for a statement in Wikipedia, but it does prompt me to call for a citation on the claim that multiple gruelling operations were required to repair the lacerations. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Agemegos (talk • contribs) 06:38, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Clean-ups[edit]

I've started cleaning up some of the text and re-arranging a few new parts, such as moving the newer text about his Stadium show with Lloyd Price. This was added to the section about O'Keefe's early career, so I've moved that forward to the appropriate period.

I've also revised the section dealing with O'Keefe's accident. I noted with some annoyance the insertion of the revisionist third-person term "the driver". O'Keefe was at the wheel, no question -- this is a matter of legal fact.

Louis Armstrong ban[edit]

Is there a source to back the claim Louis Armstrong was banned from touring Australia because of the White Australia Policy? The WAP as I understand it applied to permanent immigrants, not touring performers. For example the West Indies cricket team toured in the 1930s and Jack Johnson fought in Sydney in the early 1900s. Car crash and marijuana in hub caps[edit]

I have removed the entire paragraph dealing with the car crash and the supposed marijuana in hubcaps. Wikipedia is not a place for rumours and apocryphal stories, particularly those that make apologies for very likely being just stories (as this paragraph did). Reinstate only if you have verifiable sources for this "marijuana in hubcaps" story.Guyburns (talk) 03:16, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fabian Forte - Italian American singer known simply as Fabian.[edit]

Soon before the Kempsey car crash involving Johnny and the others, the impresario Lee Gordon had booked an Australian Tour for the Philadelphia based Cameo/Parkway recording artist Fabian. Fabian was Italian American, olive skinned, Elvis hair, good looking, and extremely popular. Unfortunately, he sang flat which didn't seem to matter much, but of greater concern was that Gordon for the very first time had booked an overseas act (read Rock 'n' Roller) to headline the show without any other overseas support. To compensate, Gordon booked the following Australian artists, popular at the time and listed them in hierarchical order: Johnny O'Keefe and the Dee Jays Col Joye and the Joye Boys Johnny Rebb and the Rebels Johnny Devlin and the Devils Lonnie Lee and the Lee Men Dig Richards and the R Jays And The Delltones. If only to see O'Keefe it was a must see show. But, O'Keefe was in hospital as a result of the crash and as most ticket sales then where "walk ups". Gordon was a little concerned. However, as I approached the Saturday afternoon matinee performance at the Sydney Stadium I could hear girls screaming and running past me to their seats. O'Keefe had checked out of hospital, dressed and together with his band and The Dellies was delivering a master class in early 60's Rock as the opening act. answers.com cite link[edit]

link to http://www.answers.com/topic/johnny-o-keefe given as citation (39) for "Johnny O'Keefe died on 6 October 1978, from a heart attack induced by prescribed drugs" doesn't go to any content relating to Johnny O'Keefe.
