WP:PROMOTION

[edit]

The phrase 'selling quality products and effectively keeping costs low by following the motto, “We Save Paperclips”' sounds like advertising to my ear (per WP:PROMOTION). Is there any objection if I simply remove the phrase?--Thelema12 (talk) 22:13, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

So I went ahead and made that cut. Discuss.--Thelema12 (talk) 18:14, 24 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I see Jonathan Johnson's motto at his business, "We save paperclips" as being an important campaign promise to save the taxpayer's of Utah money, by running the state of Utah as a thrifty enterprise -- like he ran his business as a thrifty enterprise. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kaydell (talkcontribs) 21:51, 17 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Youtube as a source

[edit]

Two recent edits to this page are sourced using youtube videos. Per Wikipedia's policy of only including material published by reliable sources (see Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources). "Content from websites whose content is largely user-generated is also generally unacceptable. Sites with user-generated content include personal websites, personal blogs, group blogs, the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), the Comic Book Database (CBDB.com), content farms, most wikis including Wikipedia, and other collaboratively created websites." This is especially important for biographies of living persons - poorly sourced material will be removed.--Thelema12 (talk) 21:24, 17 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"JJ" Nickname

[edit]

This smells of election-year marketing/branding to me. Recommend that "JJ" be removed from this article's title. Also compare descriptions of References 12 and 16 to their underlying articles. Please discuss.

Agreed. I'm going to update the article, as it is now out-of-date since the primary election is over. Maybe before I do that, I should move the article back under its former title. --Thelema12 (talk) 18:06, 27 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Updates

[edit]
Extended content

  • PROPOSED UPDATE: married to his wife, Courtney Johnson ″since 1988″
  • REASONING: He has been married since 1988 making it 32 years and not 27 years. This edit will prevent further editing the years of marriage and simply state the year they were married.

  • PROPOSED CHANGE: Following Johnson was appointed CEO of Overstock.com "He is still a member of the board of directors." (It appears he serves on 11 different boards. It may be good to just include a table of his board service, which includes the name of the organization, his role (director, president, chairman, etc., and his tenure on the board (for example, since 2015))
  • REASONING: Though he is CEO and no longer chairman of the board, he still serves on the board of directors.

  Unable to implement

  1. The request uses LinkedIn as a source, which cannot be done.
  2. Certain terms of importance, such as names of companies, are not Wikilinked.
  3. The references are not formatted using the same style used in the article.
