What is the route from Jordanhill Railway Station to Izbat al Burj?

[edit]

If someone were to take an impromptu route named the "Wikipedian's 1M-4M Route," starting at Jordanhill Railway Station, what would the route be all the way to Izbat al Burj? Thanks. --70.179.170.114 (talk) 11:03, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I found one. 86 hours without stops, but about 168 with all essential and recreational stops. --129.130.239.163 (talk) 03:37, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What if we took it further, and created a Wikpedian's Amazing Race? The starting point would be Wikipedia's headquarters in San Francisco (the first non-test Wikipedia article was Wikipedia), and from there, contestants would head to Jordanhill Railway Station, then to Madrid, Spain (where El Hormiguero is produced), and from there to Maloy, Norway (where Beate Eriksen got married; I would have used her birthplace, but no one seems to know it). After that, the contestants would progress to Izbat Al Burj, and finish in Canberra, Australia, specifically at the Australian National Botanic Gardens, which boast some fine specimens of Persoonia terminalis. The winner would recieve a special "Amazing Race Barnstar" or something of the sort. There'd also be a cash prize, of course, and a trophy shaped like either a WikiGlobe or a barnstar. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiSquirrel42 (talkcontribs) 22:53, 30 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed! Congratulations to Jordanhill railway station, I'd recommend adding a 'trivia' section or similar to note this momentous honour. SolomonFreer (talk) 06:13, 10 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Observations

[edit]
  • The original Good Article Review is not accessible.
  • The GA status was reviewed during the GA sweep of 2008 and the status was kept.
GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose, spelling, and grammar): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
  • The article follows MOS for layout, lead. There are a number of one sentence paragraphs.
  1. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (reference section): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR): d (copyvio and plagiarism):
  • Reference 9 gives 404
  • Reference 12,13, 16 do not go to the source.
  • Reference 18 goes to 404
  • Copyvio check = 0.0% ... article is Persil.
  1. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
  • The article is reasonable as far as it goes.
  • WP:STATION cites Wikipedia:Notability: "A topic is presumed to be notable if it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject."
  • WP:BEFORE search brings a significant amount of results, photographs, ScotRail, ticket sales, passenger traffic, timetables, like this.
  1. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  • NPOV is preserved in this article.
  1. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  • Page created 2 March 2006
  • Page has 1090 edits by 503 editors
  • Page had 746 edits in 2006b due its celebrity status as 1,000,000th page
  • 90 day page views = 1,171 views with a daily average of 13 views.
  • There are 62 reverts in page history, many of which reference 'possible vandalism'
  • The reverts are not done by bots but by some of the 142 page watchers.
  • No edit wars are observed in page history.
  1. It is illustrated by images and other media, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free content have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  • File:Jordanhill station 2016-08-25.jpg = Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International license.
  • File:Jordanhill station sign.jpg = work released into the public domain by the copyright holder;
  • File:Jordanhill station open street maps.png = Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 2.0 Generic license.
  • Images are appropriate and have fair use rationales.
  1. Overall:
  • There was a significant amount of activity around this article circa March 2006 when it was announced the Millionth article on Wikipedia.
  • The article has update tags on it with regard to rebuilding for the Commonwealth Games in 2014, and the relocation of the station beyond the junction to Westbrae Ave, Glasgow. Neither of these events appear to have occurred.
  • Research needs to be taken up with regard to relocation and rebuild of the station, and the article updated accordingly.
  • The IA bot should be run over the references. Linking to Wikipedia articles about newspapers does not render notability (nor validity) to information included in the article.
  • The Good Article status is revoked due the article needing updates and work on references. --Whiteguru (talk) 07:56, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Article refresh: Station upgraded or not?

[edit]

I hoped to update the outdated section which predicts a station upgrade prior to the 2014 Commonwealth Games, but found no sources to indicate that this actually happened. Moreover, the The Glasgow 2014 Legacy Story (particularly pages 15-16) makes no mention of Jordanhill when discussing other station upgrades. AllyD (talk) 06:42, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
