"Last witness" claim[edit]

I removed the claim the he was the last surviving witness, which appears to simply be his own claim. There are scholarly works enumerating witness accounts which undoubtedly bear on this. EEng 21:16, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hazelton noted that he was the last surviving witness at the time of that writing, which was included in the sentence you edited. No problem, though, with editing it out. -AuthorAuthor (talk) 04:11, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If you're the last surviving witness at time X, then you'll always be the last surviving witness until you die. But Hazleton died in 1936 and there was apparently at least one witness still alive as late as 1956. So his claim appears to have been false (though I have little doubt honestly meant).
