"Other than Aidan MacCarthy, Canny was one of the few Irish citizen to witness the detonation of the world’s first atomic bomb."

Aidan MacCarthy was in Nagasaki, not Hiroshima, and so he witnessed the detonation of the world's second atomic bomb (used on people - there were tests before), unless people in Nagasaki in general witnessed it.
