Comment[edit]

I have removed from this article the allegation added by an an anonymous user on 3rd Dec, 2005 that Barnes had "lifted" a story idea and plot elements. No reference is offered for this allegation, and a google search found no other reference to it. BrownHairedGirl 03:17, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]


I do not think that the fact that Barnes and Dolly Parton are born on the same day deserves four lines and a strange interpretation. Remove? 03 March 2006

Fair use rationale for Image:Arthur & George.jpg[edit]

Image:Arthur & George.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Copyright problem[edit]

This article has been reverted by a bot to this version as part of a large-scale clean-up project of multiple article copyright infringement. (See the investigation subpage) This has been done to remove User:Accotink2's contributions as they have a history of extensive copyright violation and so it is assumed that all of their major contributions are copyright violations. Earlier text must not be restored, unless it can be verified to be free of infringement. Contributors may use sources as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences or phrases. Prix Médicis[edit]

I can't find his name on the lists of the prize [1] though many articles says he recieved it, including this. In 1986 the Éstranger-prize was given to John Hawkes (Britannia) for Aventures dans le commerce des peaux en Alaska and in 1984 (as others say) Elsa Morante, Italia for Aracoeli. – --Abc10 (talk) 06:07, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I know I'm over 12 years late to this, but it seems that Flaubert's Parrot won the Prix Médicis Essai, which is a separate category to the main Prix Médicis.
The official list here suggests that it was won in 1986 by Les Cinq Sens by Michel Serres, but it's widely attested that that book actually won in 1985. I'm going to add the award to the list on this page, with a source, and to the page on Flaubert's Parrot as well. It's already listed in Prix Médicis. Postmodern writer? Who believes this?[edit]

Having read and re-read several novels by Barnes recently I was somewhat surprised to find that he is considered a postmodern writer. My overall impression was that he was not highly experimental. This article has no real discussion of this matter. I know that the views of several critics support the idea that he is a postmodernist, but wonder if this is the view of the majority? .Rwood128 (talk) 16:44, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Kriegel -- Translation?[edit]

Do we have a source for him translating the Kriegel book? I'm suspicious because a) the Amazon listing I looked at mentions an introduction by Barnes, but doesn't specify a translator (not an ideal source, of course); b) it's not mentioned on his site -- http://julianbarnes.com/books/index.html -- which does mention the Daudet translation; c) I'm not aware of German being one of his many talents.
