No, I am not the pianist Julian Trevelyan, I am an amateur pianist and professional salesman.
I originally started this page on Julian, and included his history about his family. Frankly, it always worried me as it seemed to detract from his piano playing, although both Julian and his father accepted it. Somebody recently deleted it, I could not trace the deletion or deleter, or the reason for it. Perhaps it is a good thing. Perhaps not. What do you think ?
I already had a complaint at the beginning from somebody who complained that Julian was not a famous person, but "just a pianist", which reminded me of the Life of Brian, who was just "a very naughty boy".
So, perhaps you are not aware of the world of competitive piano playing. Beethoven first won fame (and for a long time it is was the only fame he had) as a competitive piano player, being the fastest and the loudest, by all accounts. Modern competition is perhaps more nuanced. In the world of international piano competitions, Britain lags far behind the rest of the world. We haven't had a great victory since the 1960s, and even then they were not repeated. Then, along comes Julian Trevelyan, very young, and wins a string of competitions, and keeps on winning them. This competitive record is exceptional for anyone, but unique for a Briton. You can compare his record with that of Peter Donohoe, for example, who came second, or that of John Ogdon, the last Briton to win outright a major piano competition (in 1961).
Now, you may prefer football, and think that it is alright for Erling Haaland - at 23 - to have a really long wiki page, when all he does is kick a football around the park, or Eddie the Eagle, who never won anything jumping off mountains, and even has a film made about his life. User Friendlyyours137, who appears to know the subject and their family personally, has not declared their COI with this article. Thanks, CurryTime for highlighting COI. I started this page long before I knew the subject, (although of course I knew OF the subject, otherwise I could not have written about him - I wrote an article for The Pianist which was never published) and since then have merely been keeping it up to date and clean. Happy to drop out if you think there is a COI. I don't know the subject's birthday, nor where I could find a reliable secondary source, but the ages in the article seem to come from secondary sources - usually the bios from the competitions, I imagine.
