Born 1854, or 1853?

[edit]

Are we certain that he was born in 1854? The census from 1880[1] mentions him (26 years old, born 1853/1854) and his sister Louise (18 years old, born 1861/1862). There is a Julius Hauser, born 7 August 1853, baptised 9 August 1853, from Rust, Ettenheim, Baden, Germany.[2] His sister Luise Hauser was baptised there on 20 August 1861.[3] It wouldn't be the first time that an emigrant's birth date as recorded in the US is off by exactly one year. Indeed, this is the same person, and born in 1853.[4] For sources, including sources from America that confirm his origin, compare [5]. Renerpho (talk) 14:24, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Julius Hauser was my grandfather and he was indeed born in 1853. I’ve seen the records in Rust. 2600:8801:B005:E200:B999:AE59:26D1:8934 (talk) 02:26, 7 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
