"violent" protests

I have removed it for now as I do not see the cited sources characterizing them as violent protests as a whole. For example the Reuters article says that the protests were peaceful, then police used pepper spray and some protesters were injured. Mellk (talk) 22:06, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Per NBC, in this article: "U.S. Capitol Police said in a post on X before 2 p.m.: “Part of the crowd has started to become violent at First Street and Constitution Avenue, NW. The crowd failed to obey our order to move back from our police line. We are deploying pepper spray towards anyone trying to break the law and cross that line.” Further down the article, it states, "Mitchell Rivard, chief of staff for Rep. Dan Kildee, D-Mich., said his office called for Capitol Police intervention after the demonstrators “became disruptive, violently beating on the office doors, shouting loudly and attempting to force entry into the office.” The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 23:34, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The only mention of "violent" in the NBC source is in quotes, referring to some crowds. This is still WP:OR if we are basing it on reports of paper spray being deployed. What we need instead is a secondary source calling the protests as a whole violent. The other refs should not be there if they do not support this.Mellk (talk) 23:34, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you think it is original research, a discussion should be opened on WP:RSN, since that is saying NBC, a reliable source (per WP:RSP) is somehow original research. It is attributed via the two sources at the end of the sentence. We can explain in the body of the article that the police described it as violent. But the actual police involved in the conflict stated they were violent, so the word "violent" in the lead is perfectly acceptable. No, I read this, and stand by my edit... if there is zero mention of any violence in our article, we can not call it a violent protest. Please provide any sources for any violence taking place. And someone "violently" banging on a door is as much violence than someone "violently" shifting gears in their car, that does not entail anyone being hurt or killed. - Adolphus79 (talk) 01:47, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

For clarity, the police did not say "the protests were violent", they said there was one instance of rowdy protestors not obeying police commands, and pepper spray was deplyed. Zero injuries mentioned, zero fatalities. That does not constitute "a series of violent protests". - Adolphus79 (talk) 02:00, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

July 2024 protest in Washington D.C. → July 2024 Israel–Hamas war protests in Washington, D.C. – As a frequent visitor and/or resident of the DC area (gotta keep it interesting!) - there are lots of protests in DC, and there’s been more than a few in July. Support as less ambiguous (always a good thing!), or I kinda like the July 2024 anti-Netanyahu protests in Washington, D.C. option. Since the second line of the body text even says "On 24 July 2024, thousands of demonstrators gathered in Washington, D.C., to protest Israeli Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu's visit ...", that would imply that these specific protests are focused on his visit and speech. Alternate proposal: Protests against Benjamin Netanyahu's 2024 visit to the United States, which is in my opinion a less ambiguous title that directly addresses what the protests are about and also means that the date is not ambiguous. (There are Israel–Hamas war protests in D.C. near-constantly both in "2024" and "July 2024" but these are the only ones against his 2024 visit to the United States.)
