Doctoral advisor
[edit]Who was Tocher's doctoral advisor? Gareth Jones (talk) 14:44, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
I haven't been able to find an answer to this, unfortunately his thesis contains no acknowledgement and both Tocher and his wife have now passed away [1]. The paper [2] mentioned George Alfred Barnard in the acknowledgements, "I wish to thank ... Professor G. A. Barnard for pointing out a flaw in one section, which has since been rectified" and Tony Brooker writes in his Introduction to Tocher's ICCE report [3] "The project actually started as the result of a conversation between myself and Prof. George Barnard, then Prof of Statistics in the Maths dept." Also, [4] deals directly with Barnard's work, so my best guess at the moment is that Barnard would have been Tocher's advisor. Gareth Jones (talk) 17:25, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
