Dates disagreement

[edit]

I disagree with the 1840 in the introductory paragraph that states - 'is a historic 1840 synagogue...' It is misleading. The synagogue was built in 1740. In 1830 a new building for the synagogue was constructed, but it is still in the same place, I believe. In 1840, was when Reformed Judaism was started at this synagogue. I think the first statement should be the description of it from 1740 and then in another paragraph describe how it got a new building and the start of Reformed Judaism.Mylittlezach (talk) 00:00, 28 August 2015 (UTC) Sorry, I seemed to have disrupted the previous comment's link.Mylittlezach (talk) 00:01, 28 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A synagogue is a building, and this one was built in 1840. The congregation (an organization) that owns and uses it was founded in 1749. This is all stated on the congregation's web site. Magic♪piano 19:17, 14 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hopefully today's edits provide some greater clarity. In essence, most Wikipedia articles on religious buildings incorporate both the building and the congregation that worships in the building. It's normal that editors cover both the building and the congregation and provide dates on significant moments in their shared history. Sometimes, there are seperate articles on the building (e.g. cathedral) and its congregation (arch/diocese, etc.) Rangasyd (talk) 08:15, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
