they're the same incident CR-1-AB (talk) 00:28, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Comment — Merge should be the other way around. This article is very, very short—and, lest I save it, inaccurate. Current title for this article is also afoul of WP:LOWERCASE and unusually worded; this is not an instance of riots being provoked by Cenat himself à la the George Floyd protests, but rather the giveaway. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 00:30, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Strong support At this point, the riot is much more notable than the giveaway. The other article may be longer, but this is the more appropriate title. Juneau Mike (talk) 02:21, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If this is over a move, perhaps to "Kai Cenat Union Square riot", then a move request would suffice. If this merge were to occur, it would likely involve replacing the text here with the other article, which signals that this merge request needs to occur the other way. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 02:25, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Comment — This article was forcefully moved. Do not move this article until this discussion is closed. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 02:32, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Support - The events are essentially intertwined at the point. The two articles should be merged having the giveaway as the start of the event and riots at the end. Rager7 (talk) 02:52, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Both articles cover the riots. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 03:01, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, but it would make more sense to just merge them as the redundancy of saying the same event twice in two separate articles is a little repetitive. Don't you think? Rager7 (talk) 03:03, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not arguing that the articles shouldn't be merged, but at the end of the day one should be merged into the other, and the shorter one should be turned into a redirect. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 03:04, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, fair compromise. Rager7 (talk) 03:04, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Merge either way, but yes change the title to include the riot. That is the notable point now. Juneau Mike (talk) 03:16, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Merge. It’s literally the same subject. Should be a no brainer to just combine the two pages. 2601:8C:B80:7EC0:39AA:7AFA:1D9F:D9C1 (talk) 03:51, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose merging into this article, support merging into the other — as per elijahpepe above. This article is the shorter, less complete, less accurate one, and has a nonstandard title. The content of this article should be merged into the "giveaway" one; not the other way around. 104.187.187.16 (talk) 04:05, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, there is consensus to merge. I don’t think anybody opposes that. Right now we’re just talking about what the merged article should be titled. I strongly believe it should be centered around the riot. This made world headlines, it’s notable. We just need to work out a proper title.Juneau Mike (talk) 04:19, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not what merging is about. Absolutely fine if you want to move it, but such a discussion needs to take place on the resulting article. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 04:45, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
it should be merged into Kai's page, no separate page needed. this was an incredibly minor incident 2600:4041:5D5A:A300:8993:8BAF:852E:788 (talk) 05:22, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fair point. Let’s get through this process first. Juneau Mike (talk) 05:12, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
this incident does not even deserve it's own article. it should be simply merged into a section under Kai Cenat's wiki page. 2600:4041:5D5A:A300:8993:8BAF:852E:788 (talk) 05:21, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note I changed this one's title an hour or so ago, hope that's OK (and yes, a riot is greater than a giveaway, this should absorb that). InedibleHulk (talk) 07:33, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Is a separate section needed to propose merging the two articles the other way around, or what? I think it's plainly clear that—regardless of title—the other article is far more comprehensive. The other's title can be changed accordingly, but trying to shoehorn the more fully formed write-up into the (somewhat) sloppier one would be a mistake. 2600:1700:87D3:3460:917D:D4E0:9CA4:9277 (talk) 09:44, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Strong support - Articles cover the exact same thing. Same event. PrecariousWorlds (talk) 12:16, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly what I said for supporting the merge. Rager7 (talk) 12:19, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose merging into this article, support merging into the other (or into Kai Cenat page)
They are the same incident, but each title evokes different feelings in people. I would suggest that giveaway is the event that occured, and that the riot was a result of it, and therefore lesser than. It is also a more neutral title than 'riot'.
I will add that if an event such as the Nelk 'Open the Gyms' Protest during Covid was added under the Nelk page and not a seperate one, then the same should happen with this DeathlyLivings (talk) 14:14, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Support merging into Kai Cenat Union Square giveaway. Both article titles are at least a bit problematic: "giveaway" narrows the topic too much; however, "Kai Cenat riot" could risk violating WP:BLP as suggested in the AfD, so it might be a better idea to merge into the "giveaway" article (and make a move request after). Also, most facts in "Kai Cenat riot" (the smaller article) were already mentioned by the other, only a few weren't - I've added those to the "giveaway" article. I notice that the infobox in "Kai Cenat riot" is quite lengthier, should it be copied into the other article? ObserveOwl (talk) 19:22, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
With regards to the infobox, I honestly think this one is overkill. Some specifics can probably be brought over, but the civil conflict template? Really? With the mayor and borough president listed as "lead figures" in the conflict? 2600:1700:87D3:3460:917D:D4E0:9CA4:9277 (talk) 21:15, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Support — Maybe give it a name change to something like 2023 Union Square riot. Rexxx7777 (talk) 20:09, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Support
I second this. Both articles should be combined and renamed into something “neutral”. 2803:2A00:6:2D68:43B:73B4:8025:E22D (talk) 02:53, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
