There were English lyrics attached to this melody for the 1946 Bing Crosby movie, The Emperor Waltz. Saturday Night Live once did a short film of Phil Hartmann and Jan Hooks dancing and supposedly singing this (altho, the voice sounded very much like Crosby's), which was replayed at on-air tributes when both died. The source of the introduction, and the first waltz theme itself, is surely Haydn's Imperial Hymn. Before some helpful Wikipedian accuses this suggestion of the dreaded original research virus, I had better report that since making it I have discovered a source which offers support for this view in Schoenberg's arrangement of the the Kaiserwalzer itself. I'm rather awed by this, though I think anyone with a reasonable ear will hear exactly what I mean in the Strauss original. Delahays (talk) 11:02, 10 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
