As a place name the article should be called Kalam Valley rather than the current title of Kalam valley, just like say Fergana Valley or Aosta Valley. Pahari Sahib 13:19, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just to note, this has now been done Pahari Sahib 17:57, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not the same Bahrain

[edit]

Someone has hot linked Bahrain the neighboring village, to Bahrain the emirate in Arabian Gulf. This can cause great misunderstanding to someone who would click this hot link Hassanfarooqi (talk) 19:36, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kalam ValleyKalam, Swat ValleyReason: Kalam is a village in Swat Valley, it is not a separate valley — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adnanrail (talkcontribs) 15:04, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names), and specifically Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names)#Disambiguation, which supports Kalam, Swat. Wbm1058 (talk) 18:32, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • comment – Swat valley is extended from Mingora to Kalam and Swat River flows through the length of the valley. There is no Kalam river. Please check the photographs of this article, The contributors used "Kalam, Swat Valley" and "Kalam" for caption and file name. I don't have any objection to rename this article to Kalam, Swat. • Support a move to Kalam, Swat as this is the most precise and simplest disambiguation. Contrary to appearances if you look on Google maps and zoom in a bit, there is in fact a settlement with a large number of buildings including a motel, a hotel, a school and three maternity homes. This settlement appears to be called Kalam. There does not appear to be a river called Kalam, but it is plausible. Green Giant (talk) 15:09, 1 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support a move to Kalam, Swat. I did not doubt that there is a settlement named Kalam, and my understanding is that there is not a settlement named "Kalam Valley." However, the term Kalam valley (valley should be spelled in lower case to make clear that a natural area is being described, and not a town) is widely used to describe the beautiful landscape surrounding the town. And it seems the primary reason people stay in one of the town's hotels is not to visit the town, but rather to explore the natural areas surrounding it. And I also am convinced that there is no Kalam River, but that "Kalam valley" describes the upper reaches of the Swat River, to the point where two other rivers join to form the Swat (Kalam is adjacent to this point of confluence). All of this should be explained clearly in the article. A roughly analogous example is Keene and Keene Valley, New York. These are separate settlements (hamlets), about four miles apart, but they are in the Ausable River valley, there is no Keene River. Wbm1058 (talk) 19:13, 1 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Just a note that upon further consideration it does seem that capitalizing specific valley names (as proper names) is accepted convention on Wikipedia, so I believe it's good to name the valley "Kalam Valley," but it should be made clear that that is the name of a valley, and not the name of a settlement, and that the name of that particular valley is derived from the nearby settlement with that name, rather than a river with that name, and that "Kalam Valley" is roughly equivalent to "upper Swat Valley" - it may include the lower valleys of the two rivers that join to form the Swat as well.
