Socking[edit]

This article was created by a prolific sock who usually misrepresents sources, pushes a POV etc. It has since been expanded so I cannot do the usual CSD nomination that we use for the person. Please can someone check very carefully what they wrote at the outset and remove anything that cannot be verified - it is one of those rare "assume bad faith" situations. - Sitush (talk) 22:18, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Asura pre-birth as Kamsa:
1. Mahabharata (1 short para)
2. Harivamsa: Kalanemi killed by Vishnu [1] (This same tale appears in the Skanda Purana) + sons of Kalanemi cursed by their grandfather Hiranyakashipu to be born as sons of Devaki and be killed by their father's reincarnation (the heroes of this second story in all scriptures are the sons of Devaki)
3. Devi Bhagavata Purana: tells the tale of sons of Marichi -> sons of Kalanemi -> sons of Hiranyakashipu -> sons of Devaki (Mani p. 382).
4. Bhagavata Purana: tells the tale of sons of Kalanemi cursed by Hiranyakashipu [2]
Rakshasa killed by Hanuman: Adhyatma Ramayana (Mani p. 373), Ramcharitmanas (which was inspired by Adhyatma Ramayana), the Telugu Raghunatha Ramayana and the Bengali Krittivasi Ramayana. Not in original Ramayana.
a Brahmin in Kathasaritsagara.

@Redtigerxyz: The Ramayana's rakshasa and Kathasaritasagar's Brahmin are quite minor characters as compared to the Kamsa. The Ramayana's demon wont pass GNG or such to have standalone article. Also, two articles would confuse people when over the years both articles would be vandalized by people when these characters eventually get covered in some daily soap opera. User:Dharmadhyaksha, The Kathasaritsagara one is minor; but Ramayana's rakshasa is found in many Ramayana adaptations; besides the 3 above also Hanuman-nataka (Maha-nataka) and Telugu and Kannada folk songs. The demon crushed by Hanuman while he holds the mountain in sculptures is often identified as Kalanemi. Also we do have 3 separate articles about the Taras in Hinduism. PS: I am changing Shrutakirti as a detailed article about the MBh character exists in Upapandavas. Alternate proposal: Kalanemi (Kamsa) remains here; Kalanemi (Ramayana adaptations) is split since the Ramayana rakshasa is less important from the Kamsa's previous birth. --Redtigerxyz ^Talk 07:05, 23 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It is confusing to have one article named Kalanemi and another named Kalanemi (Ramayana). I support Redtigerxyz's proposal to name this article Kalanemi (Kamsa). Yoninah (talk) 21:10, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
