Requested move 5 February 2017[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Cleaned up as described below. wbm1058 (talk) 21:02, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

– A disambiguation page needs to be at the base title (Kalwar). It was there up until the page got subverted into an article on the caste, essentially duplicating what was already at Kalwar (caste). Eventually, an editor merged the two, but merged the content of Kalwar (caste) into Kalwar instead of vice versa. The pages need to be swapped, but I think both histories should be kept. — Gorthian (talk) 06:54, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support - swap pages to preserve history, and then restore the dab page which was blanked. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:49, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment. This was a cut-paste move. I'll use my admin magic (hist-merge) to clean it up. Page histories should not have abrupt discontinuities in article scope. wbm1058 (talk) 19:22, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Note this September 2015 reversion of Kalwar (caste) by Sitush back to the version of 16:43, 8 February 2015, just prior to their merging duplicate articles. This predates the 16 June 2015 cut-paste move I linked above. I think it should be safe to delete those 15 intermediate revisions so that the history can be re-joined. The edit summary for one of those intermediate revisions was "remove copy and paste copyvio", and the content removed by that edit was added by the same editor that did the cut-paste. wbm1058 (talk) 19:45, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Wbm1058: sounds like I made a mess of things back in 2015. It also looks like you understand what I did better than I do! Sorry for the work created. - Sitush (talk) 19:47, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. THIS is the editor that created all the work. wbm1058 (talk) 19:51, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'll use Kalwar (Indian caste) as a temporary work page, since that doesn't have any meaningful history (deleted or otherwise). Just a couple of redirect edits. wbm1058 (talk) 20:02, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Just noting that the only difference in these pre- and post-merge versions was the removal of the infobox. wbm1058 (talk) 20:28, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The parallel history that could not be merged is preserved at Talk:Kalwar (caste)/Deleted history. – wbm1058 (talk) 21:02, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
