Suspension[edit]

OK, so there's some dispute as to whether there should be an explanation for Waselenchuk's 2 year absence from the IRT. I'm saying there should be, because I believe there has to be an explanation of why Waselenchuk did not compete for two years. I had writtten a paragraph providing that explanation with a reference. But another editor has removed it 9 times now. In the paragraph there's no judgment about the suspension and its cause. But it happened. It's a fact. I believe an encyclopedia entry of a person should mention the significant events in the person's life, if those events relate to the achievements in the person's profession. Waselenchuk's suspension was a significant event in his racquetball career, so we believe it should be mentioned. Why exactly shouldn't it be mentioned? I agree as above, I'd like to see some kind of rationale from the IP for removal. Dayewalker (talk) 04:52, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't have to be descriptive and detailed. This is and is still a personal matter. I think it is suffice to mention the suspension and that is all that should be mentioned. Respect the privacy of the matter and the player involved and leave it alone. Are you some sports beat writer for a magazine or something? What is your agenda in always coming back and listing details about the suspension? Does it make you feel better pointing out details about someone's personal life? If you want to go back and forth on this forever, I am willing to stand by my defense of respecting Kane and his private matter for as long as it takes. 99.29.216.206 (talk) 16:40, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

IP, there's no reason to get personal in this discussion, please limit your comments to the subject of the article and the matter at hand. If you think the matter should be less detailed, why don't you suggest how you'd like to see it included in the article? Dayewalker (talk) 17:11, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, so its entries should be encyclopedic, which means there needs to be some level of description and detail. That said, I agree with IP that entries on individuals needn't list all personal details. However, if a detail impacted on the individual's career - the reason the individual is in Wikipedia in the first place - then it should be mentioned here. IP's changed the wording for the event removing the quote from the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport press release about it for a less specific description. I thought using the quote was the least biased way of referring to the event, because it was straight from the organization that did the testing.
As for an agenda, it's simply this: racquetball has been poor at keeping records of its history, and one way the sport can raise itself up is by being better at record keeping. Wikipedia provides a great venue for doing that, so I've created or edited existing entries on racquetball players, events, and organizations. I'm not the enemy here. I can't believe I had to come to this page to find out that and why he was absent for 2 years in the middle of a historic run. Whoever is blocking this information should be banned from editing the page. Whoever up there said it's a personal matter is ridiculous and also shouldn't be editing the page. Whenever that paragraph is again added (I'm not qualified), please post it to this page so it can immediately be reposted if it gets vandalized by deletion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.108.246.131 (talk) 03:04, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
