I can't write to the article page!!!

[edit]

The original contributor on 2007-06-21T16:27:02 (IP address, unsigned) left what he/she wanted to place on the article page here. I have removed that, since it included an infobox and made this look like an article page, and moved the information that I could to the article page. Neither image in the original post exists, so they were not transferred. Donlammers (talk) 10:50, 5 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Photo

[edit]

What have I do? I need to transfer a photo from ru.wiki: Batyr

The image page pointed to does not exist. The post is unsigned, but history shows it is from Genius001. The Batyr article does not have a photo either so I am going to assume this photo did not meet copyright standards and was deleted. I also do not see references to Batyr on commons. Name change (December 2012)

[edit]

At least three attempts to make an article name change for the Karaganda city article have been documented on the Karaganda talk page, with no move in 2007, 2008, or 2012. In addition, all three sources listed in the zoo article show "Karaganda" (in English). I don't speak Kazakh, and don't have an opinion on what the city should be called, we should be referring to the city by the name of its WikiPedia article. In addition, all three of the sources used in this article use "Karaganda". In this article, I have changed the city back to match the article name, and changed the titles in the references to reflect the actual article titles (these would not change even if the city article was renamed "Karagandy", because we use the actual title of the work for citations).

I am not moving this article back to "Karaganda Zoo" right now. I assume it's possible that the zoo site in English (which I have not found) uses "Karagandy Zoo" in the title. If the English version of the official zoo site shows "Karagandy", then regardless of the other usages in Wikipedia, we can justify this move for the zoo article (though not for any other WikiPedia article). This would not change the fact that the city is still called Karaganda on this Wikipedia, and that the references point to articles with "Karaganda" in the title.

If a suitable reference using the new name cannot be found within a week or so, I will be moving the zoo article back to its original location based on the current references. Don Lammers (talk) 18:49, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Karaganda Zoo ->Karagandy Zoo

[edit]

Karagany city, Karagandy Zoo this is right --Arystanbek (talk) 06:21, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that I actually agree with you on this point -- the zoo is named after the city. However, the city on the English Wikipedia is named Karaganda so "Karaganda city, Karaganda Zoo" (to use your own logic). You have failed to convince people that know a lot more about Wikipedia and location naming than I to change the city name. Unless you can come up with evidence that the zoo is called this in common English usage, it should be named after the city (as you point out, which is Karaganda here. You need to come up with much better evidence than just local pronunciation, and get teh city name changed first. Don Lammers (talk) 12:29, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
