I have removed the following controversial claim from the article:

During the 1987 NFL players' strike, Mecklenburg tore up an autograph he had signed for a boy when he learned the 8-year-old would be attending a game featuring replacement players. Mecklenburg was criticized heavily for the incident.[1]

It may violate Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, as it cites a newspaper article, but this is a commentary (see The article), not a news article, and thus may have an unverified opinion -- I think a better source is neededJohnelwayrules (talk) 02:16, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
