Changed to more NPOV given controversy of this minority claimant to 17th Karmapa title

[edit]

I have modified the text to read "a disputed claimant to the title of 17th Gyalwa Karmapa". As the majority of Kagyu senior lineage holders don't recognise the claimant, it is a minority claim, so it is by no means automatic that Trinley Thaye Dorje is the recognised 17th Karmapa. I have also removed the text "Envisioned by His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa Rangjung Rigpe Dorje" - this is unverifiable. It would be false statement if he were found to be a false claimant, so it is best removed as it is more a bit of politics than verifiable. --121.214.45.54 (talk) 02:59, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Changed status of Trinley Thaye Dorje to match the main article on Trinley Thaye Dorje

[edit]

It is important to note the fact that the position of the 17th Karmapa is fiercely controversial, in a way which recognises that this is not the main focus of the article. In the articles on the Karmapa controversy, Ogyen Trinley Dorje and Trinley Thaye Dorje are referred to as "claimants", not "disputed claimants" or "minority/majority claimants". So I've retained the "claimant to the title of 17th Gyalwa Karmapa.", but removed the "disputed"; actually it's redundant: if there are claimants plural, there is dispute. I've also linked it to the main page on the Karmapa controversy. If someone wants to look it up, they can do. Mentioning it once, and giving a link, should be sufficient.

For the same reasons, I've removed the "H.H. the minority claimant 17th of Gyalwa Karmapa -" (which is completely ungrammatical) from the link to Trinley Thaye Dorje's homepage.Gandalf1976 (talk) 12:31, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edits for readability and logic

[edit]

It said "K.I.B.I. aims at furthering wisdom and compassion based on the interpretation of this factions lineage of the Karma Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism" This doesn't really reflect what KIBI does. It doesn't teach based on a factious interpretation of a lineage. It teaches based on root texts dating from hundreds of years before the split in the lineage, therefore this has nothing to do with the current lineage politics. So I removed the bit about factions.Gandalf1976 (talk) 12:31, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edits for retrievability

[edit]

Since KIBI is the most likely search term for this entry, I added KIBI as an abbreviation next to K.I.B.I so that it will come up in searches for the term KIBI.Gandalf1976 (talk) 12:31, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Changed Shamar Rinpoche's title

[edit]

Shamar Rinpoche recently (in July 2009) told his students that he does not want to be known as H.H. or His Holiness any more. I've amended his title here accordingly. see http://www.shamarpa.org/Gandalf1976 (talk) 12:31, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
