Can someone write a reference for 'kartalimen'? As far as I know the district got it's name from Kartal Baba. Erguvan7 22:18, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the first settlement on that area were Kartalimen even it was not sure if the name "Kartal" comes from that name. Accourding the most of the resources, there are 3 possibities about this name:

1. Turks made the name Kartaliman in a shorter form. Kartaliman used to mean Karta-Liman means big port.

2. There was a dervish called Kartal Baba who used to live in Maltepe region. The name of kartal gets from here.

3. There was a greek fisherman called Kartalli who used to live in the villiage that given that name to Kartal.

On the article, it is not mentioned where that name came from because it is not clear but it is clear that the first settlement in that region was Kartalimen.
