NPOV Dispute[edit]

I believe that this article has a noticeable slant in favor of the subject, is not verifiable, and is the product of original research, all contrary to WP:BLP. I want to detail my concerns here before I significantly change the article, as suggested in WP:NPOVD.

The first serious issues are in the third paragraph. The first two sentences, "Hobbs was elected over community dissatisfaction ..." and "There was anger ...", are both uncited and unverifiable. They attribute blame, first to the previous city council and then to an unspecified figure named "Leadman". I am immediately removing the remainder of this paragraph, which accuses "Leadman" of a mostly unspecified failure without any evidence, because the combination of uncited and inflammatory language may actually constitute defamation.

Problems in the fourth paragraph include biased language such as "Hobbs is a cycling advocate", "She has been instrumental", and the evidence-free claim that one of her projects "is now being used as a model". The entire rest of the article adopts this same brazenly complimentary tone: the article explains that "Hobbs secured $500,000", she incorporated "extensive community input", she is "protecting low rise residential areas and increasing greenspace", "Hobbs is a transit advocate who ensured extra stations", "Parks have also been a priority", and "Hobbs sits on numerous committees".

Although I assume this article was written in good faith, all of this language -- comprising the vast majority of the article -- is much more appropriate for Hobbs's campaign literature than for an encyclopedia article, and in my view it represents a tremendous political bias. I will rewrite the article entirely unless there are serious objections. Astrophobe (talk) 04:32, 19 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the tone issue, and worry that there are no sources listed for many of these things. Surely City Council debates and newspaers covered some of the.? RILSQIID (talk) 03:15, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

TTourismBrockville (talk) 17:25, 17 July 2018 (UTC)hank you for removing the section on community dissatisfaction and "there was anger" I don't know who wrote that garbage. It was not accurate to my knowledge, and nothing to do with why I ran for Council in 2010 as I didn't even know who my opponent was at the time. I ran because I thought I could do something positive for the community and there had been a concerted effort by a group in the City to encourage more businesspeople to run for Council. I also notice Kevin O'Donnell has commented on this page and has disputed many facts. As I do know him well and he was a key figure on Jeff Leiper's campaign there may have been a lot of things done to this page that were not true or appropriate. I just checked on this site today for the first time in many years as I was looking at changing some other pages in keeping with my new role outside of Ottawa. I was a bit distressed to see all of this discourse. While you may feel it has a slant in my favour, I want to assure you it was factual. But to see that it was not all positive and light, I have added a citation to a news article that criticizes me roundly. Such is political life and it just a snapshot of the time. It really matters little about any of those thoughts or feelings, but the infrastructure that was created while I was on Council is what continues on through time, and what is listed here. Thanks for allowing me to share. July 2018 - Katherine Hobbs[reply]

Previous section[edit]

Hello,

Currently adding the appropriate links and references to the article Katherine Hobbs. As a candidate for Ottawa City Council, Hobbs has had significant media coverage.

It was made live prior to being completely finished to check on links and references so they can be corrected.

Thanks, Mark

Also, this does article is not intended to give platform information, it is intended only as a biography. Hobbs is listed on the City of Ottawa Wikipedia site, on the Capital Crime Writer's site, and also on Christine Leadman's Wikipedia site. It seemed logical to add this article, based on the existing references to Hobbs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MarkGell (talkcontribs) 15:18, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have added in more of the news articles and links. Please advise on suitability, as Hobbs has a number of noteworthy inclusions in various media. Thank you, Mark —Preceding unsigned comment added by MarkGell (talkcontribs) 15:42, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
