Alan Kaltman edits

[edit]

Hello, Alan/Ronnie. As I noted in the edit summary, there were at least two problems with the edits I reverted. One is that properly referenced material was removed - the chart peaks of her hit songs, which is supported by a citation to a reliable source. Another problem is the addition of direct quotations from Linden. When we are attributing a direct quotation to somebody, we must be able to trace it to a published source - this is important for legal reasons; we must have public accountability when we allege that somebody said something. Additionally, there are problems with the encyclopedic tone of the edits and the addition of purple prose that does not impart neutral information about Linden, but rather acts to promote her or present her in a positive light. Since you have noted you know her personally, you must exert great care not to let your conflict of interest color the edits you make. Chubbles (talk) 20:41, 24 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Chubbles,

I thank you for your explanation. I will try to revise my update keeping in mind your comments. The Glen Gray statement, though, should be deleted because she told me that she never sang with his orchestra.

I have no problem with your objection of my removal of properly referenced material. My new update will retain everything word-for-word up to and including the portion "Goodbye Jimmy, Goodbye" became an international hit, not least in Sweden, where Linden's version peaked at no 3, where it stayed for many weeks in September and October 1959. except I will delete the Glen Gray reference. If you have sourced information stating that she DID sing with Glen Gray then please let me know.

I will rewrite my update on what she has done since "Goodbye Jimmy, Goodbye" ..... her retirement from show business and her recent re-emergence with a new website and a new album.

I will NOT use the quote and will try to not use purple prose, a term I first heard about today!

I am far from perfect (and we all are) but I believe my intentions are good and correctable. I respect Wikipedia and I want my contribution to conform and to avoid the pitfalls you described.

I will publish my new update tomorrow. It should be much better. If you need to revert any portion of my "better" version, please let me know how I can fix it.

Thanks again!

Hello Chubbles,

I have made my Kathy Linden update with the changes and hopefully you will approve them. The only modification to what was written by someone else was my removal of the mention of Glen Gray, an orchestra leader Kathy told me whom she never worked with.

I have made my comments more neutral and briefer: "just the facts." And I removed the quote that you mentioned.

Thanks so very much for your very helpful comments.

If there is anything else that you feel I should modify, please let me know.
