Article name change

We need an article name change. The original book title was: Katie.com: My Story. So this title is incorrect. Futhermore the book title has been changed to A Girl's Life Online since 2004. Yes the website is dead now and up for sale. But yes the title is incorrect and isn't the most common name for this book. Most of the reviews I've found have "Katie.com: My Story". I agree that the name should be changed but also suggest making redirects to this article can be found.Serialjoepsycho (talk) 18:43, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

I agree. It does not matter that Jones is no longer using the web address Katie.com. She may use it again in future and she may be selling it and the new owner will create a website there. Either way the current title is inaccurate and conflates the book with the domain name and perpetuates past confusion. Katie Jones can't use or sell the domain because she doesn't own it and hasn't for over six years! If she wanted to do something with it she would have to purchase it from the current owner. I'm not against the renaming of the article, but we should state facts here, not make ignorant statements based on a complete lack of research. The book wasn't that much of a big deal in and of itself. The confusion surrounding the domain name was the only reason the book got press. The author in fact had to cancel all of her publicity for the book because all anyone would ask about was the fact that they had stolen the domain name. Fine, have an article about the book, but I do not understand renaming both the katie.com entry and the Katie Jones entry to suggest that the book is the important story here. Virtually all of the press links are regarding the domain theft. Put Katie Jones entry back. --

Whitewashed?

It seems that the mentions of Parry Aftab threatening Jones, etc. were somehow whitewashed away. I put back a sentence or two about it, but I think the kerfluffle with the online community deserves more discussion. Andrevan@ 19:22, 18 October 2014 (UTC)

Also the fact that the publisher had the domain Katiet.com and could have used it as the title if they were genuinely interested in avoiding trouble could be mentioned as well. It is quite obvious that katie.com was chosen precisely because it did belong to someone who ran chat rooms in order to generate publicity. Also, girl.com was rejected because *surprise surprise* it was an adult website.

It is the sweetest kind of justice that for a time (about a year or so) katie.com was an adult website. It is really stupid to name a book after a domain controlled by someone else and if I was Katie Jones I would have immediately put up an adult website just to teach those arrogant jerks a lesson. This reminds me of the idiots who link directly to images on someone else's website, it serves them right when the cute kitten picture gets turned into something that could be referred to by the same word! Unsubstantiated allegation and WP:BLP concerns

• I've amended the section to take out the word "threatened" and replaced it with 'tried to coerce'. The source does not use that word [threaten] or anything like it and per WP:BLP we have to be very careful about making unsubstantiated [and potentially legal] allegations about a living person. Here's what the source says:
  • Parry Aftab got involved: she contacted Katie Jones and tried to persuade her to hand over the Katie.com site.
  • Jones wrote at the time: She tried to convince me that I should donate the domain name to them. Secondly, she tells me that they're planning on launching some school curriculum thing to teach kids about online safety - and they're calling it Katie.com. Are they insane? No wonder they want me to hand it over.
  • Aftab said she was not working with Tarbox, and accused Jones of having a hidden agenda.
