Non-profit

Like it or not, Keiser University is owned by a non-profit entity. Thus, it is not a for-profit school. The present form included in the introductory sentence that it was a "formerly for-profit" school. However, this appears more prejudicial than anything. The entry for Grand Canyon University doesn't state "a private, for-profit university that was formerly non-profit." The corporate structure (i.e. for-profit versus non-profit) can be detailed in the school's history but I don't see how it belongs in the first sentence of the summary. 128.253.130.36 (talk) 20:22, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

Because it's really important, and really interesting, recent development at the institution . It would be entirely appropriate to note recent changes in tax status that occurred at other schools, yes. Flyte35 (talk) 20:44, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
That's bull and you know it. Look at the entry for Patten University. It states: "Patten University is a private for-profit institution of higher education in Oakland, California." Why doesn't it say "Patten University is a private for-profit (formerly non-profit) institution?" That would certainly be true. The fact is that when a non-profit school becomes "for-profit" then the entry is changed accordingly but when a for-profit school becomes non-profit someone feels it important to not only keep the words "for-profit" in the opening line of the article but to also specifically omit "non-profit" from the sidebar (where all other universities are listed as either "For Profit" or "Non-Profit." I'm not saying that the change in tax status doesn't warrant mentioning just that it doens't belong in the opening line. This change occurred in 2011. 128.253.130.36 (talk) 17:03, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
I see your point. It's actually pretty rare for an institution to go from for-profit school to just a regular one, but I guess it's not necessary to keep it in the intro. It should just say "private" then; there's no need to specify non-profit status. Flyte35 (talk) 18:22, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

Sueing FSCJ

I was reading the campus newspaper and it seems Keiser University is suing FSCJ on charges of a supposed smear campaign against them and for profit colleges, http://jacksonville.com/news/florida/2010-10-04/story/profit-college-sues-fscj-president http://jacksonville.com/news/metro/2010-10-11/story/short-seller-says-lawsuit-he-never-heard-keiser-university http://dailyme.com/story/2010100600001831/keiser-lawsuit-fscj-showcase-college-scorn.htmlUmitencho (talk) 22:35, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
