Requested move 27 January 2019[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Moved to original proposal. Consensus is clear with regards to the primary topic, please feel free (Necrothesp / Crouch, Swale / Uanfala) to open another requested move with regards to parentheses v.s. comma. Looking at the guidelines, it seems to vary wildly from country to country, so perhaps an RFC is in order. (closed by non-admin page mover) SITH (talk) 00:29, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

– This village isn't the primary topic: "Kena" is also the name of a river in Russia and a common alternative spelling for both the musical instrument and the Egyptian city. I'm requesting help in deciding on this article's new name: should it be Kena (Lithuania), which follows the pattern of most Lithuanian placenames (where the disambiguator, usually a district name, is placed in parentheses), or should it be Kena, Lithuania? – Uanfala (talk) 22:25, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support, the Andean flute is also spelled kena. Kena (Vilnius) would also be acceptable. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:57, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak support This does look like the only article we have of "Kena" but it doesn't look like a population of 90 should at least have priority over Qena (230,392). There seems to also be lt:Kena (upė), also in Lithuania, a settlement and river in Cameroon and another settlement in Lithuania (lt:Kena (Rukainiai)?). All in all there seems to be no case for a primary topic here and maybe it should be Kena, Vilnius? The move of the DAB also makes sense per WP:DABNAME. Crouch, Swale (talk) 11:04, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • The other Lithuanian settlement is also apparently in Vilnius. – Uanfala (talk) 13:20, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
      • Kena, Rukainiai then? that's the eldership, I also agree with the point made by Necrothesp that because its in Lithuania, not an instance of Lithuania it should be with a comma. Also we have Hayton, Carlisle which isn't part of the urban settlement of Carlisle but if there's a problem with using Vilnius, we could use Kena, Vilnius District Municipality. Crouch, Swale (talk) 14:12, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
        • That's for the other Kena, the one we don't have an article about yet, right? As for the commas, you're right, but this is only relevant only in the context of placenames in Anglophone countries. The choice of comma or parentheses is dependent on the country. For some places, like in the Czech Republic, there are explicit guidelines for the use of parentheses. I can't seem to find any explicit rules for Lithuania, but almost all Lithuanian place names use parentheticals rather than commas [1]. – Uanfala (talk) 15:06, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
          • Even if we don't (yet) have an article on it yet, we can still disambiguate if its notable. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:34, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Kena, Lithuania. We don't use parentheses for place names. Kena, Vilnius would suggest it was a district of the city of Vilnius, which it is not. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:49, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • We do, depending on the country. I haven't come across any guidelines specific to Lithuania, but virtually all disambiguators I've seen for Lithuanian settlements use a district name in parentheses. – Uanfala (talk) 13:20, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Having looked at the other Lithuanian village names, I think it's best to use the district as a disambiguator: Kena (Vilnius). – Uanfala (talk) 15:11, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, clear absence of a primary topic; no objection to a more precise disambiguator, per the discussion above. bd2412 T 18:49, 30 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I thought the original proposal was pretty much abandoned. StraussInTheHouse, mind moving to Kena (Vilnius)? None of the village articles I've looked at uses the country name like that. – Uanfala (talk) 01:11, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Uanfala, d'oh, that's what I meant to do. I'll implement in a moment. Thanks, SITH (talk) 09:38, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
