Sheffield United Supporter

[edit]

There is no proof that Kevin Davies supports Sheffield United, as it states in the opening paragraph – V4R (talk) 17:41, 29 December 2008 (GMT)

Yes, there is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03mPD8AilYc —Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.223.213.210 (talk) 22:22, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

5 Players to cost over £7m and not be capped

[edit]

It current says:

Is also currently one of five English players to have (in a single transfer) cost over £7 million and never represented their country at national level. This list includes Carl Cort and Dean Richards.

However, I have counted 7, so have changed it to:

Is also currently one of seven English players to have (in a single transfer) cost over £7 million and never represented their country at national level. This list includes Nigel Reo-Coker, Anton Ferdinand, James Milner, Curtis Davies, Carl Cort and Dean Richards. 13:51, 01 March 2009 (GMT) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.196.119.97 (talk)

Goals in 2008/2009

[edit]

It seems to be hotly contested on if he scored 11 or 12 goals and the match in question I've found is the match against Middlesbrough in November 2008. Some sources say it counts as a Steinsson goal and some state it's a Davies goal. The goal in question has Steinsson head it, then it hits Davies on the back and goes in but some places state Steinsson scored it and some state Davies.

Here's Steinsson-

https://www.skysports.com/football/mboro-vs-bolton/8765

https://www.burndenaces.co.uk/2008/11/22/middlesbrough-1-3-bolton-wanderers.html

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/7727209.stm

however, other sources as I said state Davies scored it-

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2008/nov/24/premierleague-middlesbrough

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/competitions/premier-league/3501717/Johann-Elmander-ends-drought-as-Bolton-Wanderers-are-too-strong-for-Middlesbrough-Football.html

Bolton's website doesn't seem to have history going back that far. Now whilst Sky Sports list it as a Steinsson goal, Sky Sports themselves list Davies scoring 12 goals, meaning they DO count it as a Davies goal, despite what it reported in their article, whilst the Premier League website itself also state he scored 12 goals.

https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/goals?se=210

https://www.premierleague.com/players/1249/Kevin-Davies/overview

soccerbase list it as only 11

http://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=1943&season_id=138

so basically, no one can make their mind up on who scored. I guess going with the PL site makes sense... but they aren't actually consistent on his goal tally at all because if you go to the actual article, it says Steinsson so if you change that goal on this Wiki, it would only give him 11 goals - not 12.

I actually have the 2009/2010 year book which includes all matches for the 2008/2009 season and it states Steinsson scored and gives Davies 11 goals-

https://i.imgur.com/uahDLik.jpg

so pretty much... it's 11 goal? or 12 goals? stats themselves consistently state he scored 12 from the PL and Sky Sports websites, however this game isn't sourced by SS as being scored by Davies. I think as I remember back then, the goal WAS credited to Davies at first but was changed to Steinsson by the dubious goal committee weeks (months?) later and was never updated on Wikipedia and as a result, Sky Sports and others used the info from Wiki. This isn't a first for Wiki - when Pratley was released earlier this year, BBC included his stats, which were clearly taken from Wikipedia, however they actually were 10 games less than he'd played as no one had updated Pratley's page since March, meaning he had 10 less than he should've on his page so BBC's info page was wrong by 10 appearances which clearly shows that, at least for a team like Bolton, they rely on Wiki stats. What I think happened is no one updated the match on the 2008-2009 page to state it was a Steinsson goal and for a decade it's remained the same with this causing Davies to be credited with one extra goal. ...or he DID score this goal and the report from Sky Sports is wrong (which then leads Soccerbase on others being wrong) So yeah... someone needs to figure out who actually scored this goal... because its either 2 goals that season for Steinsson, with 12 for Davies or 3/11. also I kinda feel this is my fault, back in 2008-2009, I was the one updating the information weekly on matches and such and I think I remember I was supposed to change the goal after seeing the report of the dubious goal committee and outright forgot to update it. this was 10 years ago though, it could've been the other way round, original given to Steinsson and then changed to Davies - etc. Point is... yeah - we need to figure this out lol. Football Manager also list him with 12 goals that season.Muur (talk) 01:24, 23 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
