Why was the Mike Ivall bit deleted?

[edit]

I don't understand. This had been complained about by two hockey bloggers who actually have connections to Ivall, Chris Smith of Icethetics and Johnny Griswold of PuckDrawn. If you look at the two side-by-side, there's no doubt where Larry Smith got his inspiration from. So why did it go away? 24.87.40.201 (talk) 23:08, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't look like info was deleted, infact there's probably too much info from unrealiable sources (blogs) on what is likely a non-issue. Inspiration doesn't mean copyright infringement, it seems to happen lots in Sports that logos look similar. How many falcons, bulldogs, etc... can you have. The beak is really close but other parts of the logo has drastic differences with the original. Bhockey10 (talk) 22:06, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
While I agree that there are many teams using the name Falcons, one has to wonder why a "fighting falcon" needs to be depicted with multicoloured feathers, à la a native American headdress. Complete coincidence? Hard to believe. Oh, wait: Port Huron rotated the image 180 degrees. Completely different logo, except for the beak. Munson66 (talk) 00:51, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Legally yes, despite being the same idea basically, the logo's probably have enough differences to leagally be different logos. Probably the reason by real news media hasn't ran stories-just blogs. Also using the native american headdress a coincidence? yes probably, "There was a Ojibwa reservation in part of the modern area of Port Huron until 1836." (form Port Huron's wikipedia page). Bhockey10 (talk) 19:33, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You're telling me if I turn the Montreal Canadiens' logo on its side, change the colours, and shave the top of the "C", I can call it my own? God damn. 68.145.59.149 (talk) 14:19, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds exactly like a few existing logos I can think of, see: St. Cloud State University, Trenton Habs, Verdun Junior Canadiens.Bhockey10 (talk) 16:17, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How do we know they dropped the logo? I mean, there's no citation, it hasn't been mentioned on PuckDrawn OR Icethetics, and I can't find references to it online. I'm willing to call this vandalism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.87.40.201 (talk) 17:46, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I agree, it was edited last night, so I decided to wait til today and place the no citation tag. But it's still on their website and no mention so I'm leading towards vandalism. if they indeed do it can be reversed. Bhockey10 (talk) 19:10, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

And it's over. The team announced it will create a new logo to avoid any similarities/conflicts with Ivall's concept art logo.Bhockey10 (talk) 05:31, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not quite over. Just released a new logo (unsure if it's a primary, secondary, or whatever) that's basically a tweaked version of the ripoff logo. Source: http://nahl.com/news/story.cfm?id=1707 24.87.40.201 (talk) 02:32, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It looks to be the team's secondary/away jersey logo, and its heavily modified from the original Ivall logo with only the general concept similar (that's allowed). Also it appears the team was in contact with Ivall, who contacted them and pointed out the original was too close to the original work (not the team's rip off but by the graphic artist). I'm sure they wouldn't have released a new logo without doing homework this time. Bhockey10 (talk) 05:51, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
