someone needs to create two seperate articles, one for small script and the other for the large script, due to the fact we cannot represent both in the WS box. and delete this article too, and turn it into a disimbaugation page.ㄏㄨㄤㄉㄧ (talk) 21:10, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This page looks good, though I do have some suggestions.

1) There are a few grammatical and spelling errors, but not too many. For example, you usually wrote "Jurchen" but once wrote "Jurchin." Also, you should stick to either past or present tense when talking about the writing system. It seems like you wanted to talk about it in the past tense because it is no longer used, but would occasionally switch into the present.

2) The information about how words are written using the small script is a bit confusing. Also, it would be great if you could add more information about the large script, if possible. I'm not sure if more information is available, but you wrote much more about the small script than the large script.Zoogzy (talk) 21:02, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I worked to solve the present/past tense problems.

Unfortunately, my sources were fairly scarce on the large script, so there is not much more for me to add...

I am working on a revision to clarify some of the small script construction notes, additionally.

Good job Marc, just a few things that I think might help you.

You taled about the big and the small scripts, it might be interesting to add the relative size of the two scripts. Also you talked about the language going extinct, maybe give a rough estimate of when the script was last used?

I think you did an awesome job explaning how it works but more information on whether certain parts of the 'block' are phonetic, or semantic or whatnot. Is there a set order for the characters? is a block a clause? Are there rules regarding putting the blocks together?Pictures would certainly help those who aren't in our class. Also, I dont know how much information there are on this script, but your description on the different types of consonants and vowels (labial, dental, etc) was a bit vague. For example, you said "vowels are sometimes indicated to be labial or non-labial", how is this distinction accomplished? Diacritics?

I'm sorry if some of the suggestions are impossible b/c of a lack of available sources. In that case, just ignore what i said....FrankChujianma (talk) 03:07, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Response from Marc

[edit]

Unfortunately, there was no information available on the relative sizes of the large versus small scripts from my sources. I would be interested to find out, though, so maybe that is a detail that future editors of the page can add.

Also, according to my sources, it is unclear how the vowels were indicated. I will try to clarify the blocked issue, though. Melissa thought that this detail about its construction was a little confusing, too.

Thanks for your help, Frank.

I happen to have seen a Chinese-Tangut dictionary in my school library (National University of Singapore). The next time I see it I should tell you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.233.204.108 (talk) 08:30, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you keep adding links to Google books on the talk pages of various articles, with no comment or discussion of why the linked book is relevant to the article? The book linked to above is already used in this article, and referenced in the Further reading section, so what is the point of adding a Google books link to it here on the talk page?
