Kilkenny is thought to be a Cleveland Bay sport horse gelding. Records to confirm his breeding have not been found. The Cleveland Bay horse is thought to be the oldest indigenous British horse breed. It is currently listed as "critically endangered" by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust and the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. Purebred population is thought to be around 700 horses worldwide. However it is thought thousands of Cleveland Bay sport horses or partbreds exist and are shown throughout the world in many disciplines. Unfortunately not all sport horses breeding and show records are kept current, but sport horses are eligible for registration with the Cleveland Bay Horse Society in the United Kingdom.
The Cleveland Bay Horse Society of North America maintains a database of all known and probable Cleveland Bays and Cleveland Bay sport horses. This international database is always looking for additional information and entries. Inquiries may be sent to CB.enews@yahoo.com
Country
[edit]Whilst Wofford rode the horse for America the horse was born in Ireland and competed for Ireland many times, should the panel on the left not reflect this as Country Ireland/United States. Greener man 08 (talk) 18:42, 19 July 2014 (UTC)
