Changes to article by User:Belov

[edit]

A more thorough explanation of why these are not good changes:

  • Kim Ok-bin, not Kim Ok Bin; please see WP:NC-KO regarding given names.
  • The text added to the lead is a copyvio [1] and unencyclopedic in tone.
  • The "Career" section is focused on that aspect of her life. Merging the part about her martial arts and renaming it "Biography" is not good because it's less specific and combining two unrelated things.
  • "Controversy" does not make a good section heading because it's a subjective term; see this edit.
  • Filmographies should be presented in chronologicla order and in table format; see relevant sections of MOS:WORKS and WP:FILMBIO.
  • Trivia sections should be avoided per WP:TRIVIA and the content here is unsourced; [2] is not a reliable source.
  • Gallery is unnecessary per WP:IG.

Reverting these changes does not constitute "vandalism" as they are contrary to policy and MOS guidelines. Please discuss before continuing to restore this content to the article. PC78 (talk) 19:45, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My edits

[edit]

The sections of the article weren't adequate. Martial arts was only 1 sentence and could have been placed in with the Career section thus turning it into Bio section. An article doesn't have to have so many sections. I believe sections should be used for significant events or situations in a person's life. For example the Biography should cover practical incidents, while sections should cover special events like, if OK-bin became a singer that would be sectioned off because her primary job is acting, or if she is a president to a major charity company.

Trivia I will remove cause it goes against wiki policy. I will integrate it into the content.

In The Media doesn't match the content below. Criticism seems more precise. I didn't put Controversy that's Refsworldlee's edit edit

As for the table under Filmography the dramas are mixed up with the films and you tell what is which. And such short film section doesn't require a table.

Gallery will be removed you are right. Belov 20:03, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There's nothing wrong with having short sections, and they shouldn't be merged just because they are short. The entire article is a biography, so sections titled "biography" are redundant and too generic. You restored the "Controversy" section heading that was removed by Refsworldlee. Dramas were clearly identified as such in the table, and it makes no difference how short the filmography is. PC78 (talk) 20:11, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No I didn't restore the Controversy if you look at the link it has your name then the other editors name. Belov 20:14, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My bad; I sae "Criticism" and mistook it for "Controversy". PC78 (talk) 20:22, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits to this article continue to be unconstructive, and I don't appreciate you labeling my reverts as "vandalism", which they are patently not. I have already outlined the problems with your contributions, but feel it necessary to reiterate them:

  • Her name, as per the title of the article and naming conventions for Korean given names is Kim Ok-bin, and should not be changed to Kim Ok Bin in the infobox.
  • You have not provided a reliable source for the statemenat "Kim Ok-bin graduated from Kyung Hee University".
  • The line about martial arts is not part of her career and should not be shoehorned into that section, certainly not at he beginnng.
  • Per community concensus, filmographies should be formatted as chronolgical tables, as this one was. The messy list you have introduced is contrary to that.

I've now reverted again following Belov/InkHeart's indefinite block for abusing multiple accounts. PC78 (talk) 19:19, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Contested changes that have repeatedly been made by sockpuppets of User:InkHeart

[edit]

Once more and for the record, should this ugly buisness with InkHearts sockpuppets rear it's head once more:

  1. The line about her graduating from Kyung Hee University should be supported by a reliable source; IMDb is not generally regarded as such for biographical details like this, as information on that site is user submitted.
  2. Details about her martial arts training are not related to her career and should not be shoehorned into that section. The assumption that this predates her acting career does not appear to be based on anything. This information falls under "other pursuits" in the "Criticism and other pursuits" section, but there also wasn't anything wrong with having it in a standalone "Martial arts" section as in previous revisions. Bear in mind that this is only a Start-Class article; there's nothing wrong with having short stubby sections.
  3. Concensus at WP:FILMBIO is that filmographies should be formatted as a table and presented in chronological order (the latter point is also supported by MOS:WORKS), and this concensus is upheld by numerous actor articles which have been awarded featured status. The notion that Kim's filmography is "too short" for a table is nonsense (eleven credits is plenty), and it's also rather contradictory to say that and then split it into two shorter lists for film and TV credits. In any case, community concensus should not be dismissed at the whims of individual editors.
  4. Regarding the "Music videos" section, the "v" in the heading should not be capitalised (MOS:HEAD), artist names do not require quotation marks, but song titles do (see WP:SONGS).
  5. I'll have someone else look at the Korean name in the infobox.

There is nothing controversial in any of the above. The standards for Wikipedia articles are those that we set for ourselves, not those of other websites such as IMDb or AsianMediaWiki, where sadly a lot of our content for Korean actors seems to originate. Date of birth

[edit]

There are two different date of births with 5 days difference depending on the website:

29 December 1986
3 January 1987

Unfortunately, she did not use her Twitter account since mid December 2012, so you cannot imply the date of birth by her tweets. --Christian140 (talk) 15:02, 6 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
