The U.S. team at the 1965 Deaflympics in Washington DC included a "Kitty Linn O'Neil" born 1946. I assume this is the same person; can anyone find further information on her participation in the Deaflympics? -Etoile (talk) 19:06, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Note about smallpox[edit]

The note says, "Although not impossible, smallpox was a highly unlikely disease in 1940s Texas. The last endemic case of smallpox in the United States was in 1949 - in the Rio Grande valley of Texas." I'm confused. Aren't these two sentences directly in contradiction with each other? Smallpox was highly unlikely, but the last US case did in fact happen in Texas during that period. It’s possible that O’Neil had smallpox, but really more probable that she had chicken pox and that family lore was garbled. But there’s no way to settle it, or to discuss it in text without getting into unsourced speculation. I will adjust the sentence a little and maybe it will be clearer.
