Pronunciation

[edit]

On Gardeners World this evening when Monty Don said the name of this plant, both my parents said he was saying it wrong. He pronounced the i as ɪ (as in kit) and the o as ɒ (as in dog). My parents were both agreed that it was meant to be pronounced /niːpˈhoʊfiə/. Wikipedia currently disagrees with both Monty and my parents. Doe anyone know who is right? I have noticed the reference but don't have a copy of Sunset Western Garden Book, 1995:606–607 to check that the IPA version has been transcribed correctly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.176.208.164 (talk) 20:05, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
