Failed GA[edit]

This article has failed to meet GA standards because:

The gameplay focuses on controlling companies instead of individual soldiers, a mechanic praised by critics for eliminating micromanagement. KIS was widely regarded as being an innovative game, especially for a fledgling game design company. (source this statement, otherwise it's OR)

The entire Gameplay section needs sourcing. The entire Setting section needs sourcing.

Fix these points, also consider a peer review, then relist at the candidates page. DoomsDay349 19:30, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GAN on Hold[edit]

  1. Well written?: Though I got a good idea of the game by reading the article, it felt like some of the information was scattered. Some of the content in the "Playable races" felt like it belonged in the "Gameplay" section. Also some of the gameplay info goes into a bit too much detail. It doesn't need much trimming, but I'd trim down the "Gameplay" section some. The lead could be expanded to include a sentence or two about the story and one more sentence about the reception. One other recommendation, I'd rename the "Setting" section to "Plot and setting" since some of the story is covered there.
  2. Factually accurate?: The content is sourced, though I feel that there could be a few more sources. The sources used are fine, but additional sources would help. Dialog from the game itself can be used to cite the story. See Template:Cite video game.
  3. Broad in coverage?: Unfortunately, because it is missing a development section of some kind, the article does not touch on all of the major aspects of a video game.
  4. Neutral point of view?: A little POVish, but not so much that it's a major problem. Though I'd get a fresh pair of eyes to copy edit it some.
  5. Article stability?: Does not seem to be any edit wars of any kind or debates to split or merge content.
  6. Images?: Image use is fine, however the fair use rationale of the gameplay screenshot does not adequately explain the fair use. Check out other gameplay images on other GA and FA articles for examples. I'd also look into finding an image that shows the setting, playable races, or any main character(s) in the game.

Once the issues mentioned above have been addressed within 7 days, I'll be more than happy to award GA status. If anyone has a problem/comment/question, please reply in this section of the talk page. (Guyinblack25 talk 17:22, 29 November 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Complaints noted. I will see what I can do about the writing (my writing does tend to scatter stuff around), but I don't think I'll be able to cut down the gameplay section any more (because all the information seems equally important to me at this point). As for the story, I've deliberately avoided going into too much detail, because I don't feel the story is notable enough for an encyclopedia.
Re: Development section. Unfortunately, the problem with this is that there is very little information available - Kohan was the first game of an unknown studio, so there was fairly little press coverage before the release, and subsequently, very little information to be found about it. I have managed to find a couple of interviews I could quote (they mention design goals and such), but hardly enough to fill a section. If I added a paragraph or two, and combined it with the Reception section (into "Development and reception"), would that be enough to satisfy the broadness criterium?
I haven't seen any outright PoV statements, so I can't really help on that part (though I do realize that my writing probably has a positive tint, which is natural, since I do like the game). If you could identify specific sentances, I would be happy to try to improve 'em. I will try to find a more appropriate image, and update the fair use rationale (IIRC, I just followed the WP:CVG guidelines when I uploaded the images - the requirements must've gotten stricter since).
In any case, thanks for your review! --VPeric 19:45, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
See what you can do about the gameplay section. I guess keep in mind that specific details about the mechanics of the game don't need to be mentioned. General descriptions are all that are needed to give the reader an idea of the gameplay. General example- "Resources are produced in settlements or in mines." More detailed info- "mines can only be placed in predetermined locations." As far as the story goes, a brief overview of it wouldn't hurt, just to help with the over all picture of the article. The POV isn't that bad, there are just a few parts that read like magazine rather than an encyclopedia. Phrases like "was particularly rebellious" and "Creator tasked with protecting and fostering Khaldun" are examples. If you could compile a development section, that would be a big help in passing GA. A decent sized paragraph in it's own section would be fine. (Guyinblack25 talk 23:12, 2 December 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Failed 2nd GA[edit]

GA review in accordance with the GA criteria

  1. Well written?: The article is not written poorly; a copy edit from a fresh pair of eyes would be good.
  2. Factually accurate?: The content is sourced, though I feel that there could be a few more sources. The sources used are fine, but additional sources would help.
  3. Broad in coverage?: Unfortunately, because it is missing a development section of some kind, the article does not touch on all of the major aspects of a video game.
  4. Neutral point of view?: A copy edit would be good.
  5. Article stability? Doesn't seem to be any edit wars.
  6. Images?: Suitable amount of pictures, though the Fair use rationales for them are a bit slim; still acceptable though.
GA Fail

Unfortunately, the issues brought up have not been addressed, and the article does not meet the GA criteria. Hopefully, the article can be improved and be nominated again in the future. (Guyinblack25 talk 07:33, 8 December 2007 (UTC))[reply]
